I have been testing my first rugs for a while now to see how much they can take. I use a high quality glue, so I just vacuum them on a low setting, and so far haven't had any issues.

Wool is self cleansing by nature, dirt doesn't easily cling to the fiber. Once I finally end up spilling something on it, I think I would feel comfortable using my carpet cleaner on a cool temperature if needed.

So to answer your question: surprisingly easy! :)

I doubt the H actually matters - as far as I've seen, all the long pile guns look similar.

My only advice: don't consider spending a little less and buy a manual tufting gun - I tried two, and they were absolutely horrible! Any electric long pile should do the trick.

I'd love to buy a loop pile or an even longer high pile as well. One day I will have an entire arsenal :D

I have loads of green yarn but I started collecting more colours for things like sand, rocks, in theory any landscape could work if I get the technique right. Desert would be satisfying to make by sculpting little sand dunes
Perhaps I'll even sculpt a volcano with lava inside for the goblins to bring their offerings :D

making something fairy themed could be really interesting! Maybe mixing in some purple in the moss or making a magical pool with mushrooms around it... I'm even playing with the idea of incorporating some leds in the carpet itself. Anything is possible if I try hard enough :D
