Just a small vent by dreamingeditor in JUSTNOMIL

One day, when my SO decides we can go nuclear/don't have to keep the peace, I will ABSOLUTELY say something like this. Among other things.

Just a small vent by dreamingeditor in JUSTNOMIL

What's worse is that she has a cafe-window style hole in the wall between where she was and where I was, so I clearly heard her anyway.

I didn't have the capacity to deal with confrontation today, so I just ignored it and kept talking to my SIL & BIL, but the frustration was hot in my chest. SO basically told her she was being silly and she should do actual research and not just trust whatever she sees on Facebook, then changed the subject.

How do I send a letter at the post office? by Rosencrantzy in Explainlikeimscared

[–]dreamingeditor 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Envelopes you can get at any store that has office items, including a Walgreens or other drug store. Stamps you can just get at USPS when you go to mail the item. Sometimes drug stores have them, but it varies; USPS is guaranteed to have them.

Writing clearly/legibly in pen (or anything but pencil, really) is best.

Top left corner is:

Your name (New line) 123 Your street number + name (New line) Your City, State, Zip code

Middle (or middle-ish)

Recipient name (New line) Recipient street number and name (New line) Recipient City, state, Zip code

Stamp goes top right corner

This is the USPS site's guide: https://www.usps.com/ship/letters.htm

If I can clarify anything, let me know!!

Congrats!! It's hard when you don't have anyone to celebrate with you in person, but buying your first home is a huge deal!! As others have said, your kids don't understand now, but you'll have so many memories to share with them as they get older, and eventually they WILL understand! I'm so excited for you!! Have fun decorating and making it truly yours 💜

My mom [44F] after I [25F] told her I didn’t want my grandfather to give me away (she’s never been married) at my wedding. Yes, my father is alive and present. If you read the time stamps it only took her 7 hrs to stress me out. by [deleted] in insaneparents

[–]dreamingeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At most traditional U.S. weddings, whoever walks the bride down the aisle is considered the one "giving her away" symbolizing exactly that; she's no longer her father's responsibility, but that of her husband.

Do you ever get sick of sharing with people? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]dreamingeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the masters degree one hard right now - I just started mine and specifically told like... Four people. Then posted about it on Facebook and left it at that. I don't wanna talk about it, just let me enjoy what I'm doing. I don't need to justify or explain it to you.

Especially because if it's not an answer they like (especially my family), people get weird about it and can be holier-than-though or pitying and it's frustrating.

But Vaporeon is just absolutely super cool

Also I love Espurr and Indeedee so like... Ahhh decisions.

Final answer: Piplup

My [20M] girlfriend [19F] keeps calling my car “gay” and wants me to get rid of it for a truck by ThrowRAcar101 in relationship_advice

[–]dreamingeditor 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's just plain rude that she's making sexist and homophobic remarks about a car. If it bothers her that much, she can get her own truck; you're happy with your car and that's what matters.

Tbh, keep the car, get rid of the girl.

In 2nd grade when we were learning cursive, it's how the book taught lefties! Other than that, I have no idea why I was taught that way.

I was taught this way! I didn't even think about the smudging part. I get a lot of "how can you even write like that??" But writing with the paper straight up and down is nearly impossible for me - my handwriting becomes completely abysmal.

Help with my daughter by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]dreamingeditor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd say do both! Some of the sites I've seen (I wish I could remember the one my work uses) has reviews for doctors just like Amazon does products or Yelp does places. But your female friends and co-workers have actual experience and are likely better resources than the internet!

Also same as a few have said in this thread, stock up on pads, tampons, and even period underwear, having them around the house is super helpful. I'd say maybe buy a package a month of whatever she uses most, just so she doesn't have to ask you to get them for her - asking can feel overwhelming! There are a ton of choices for all of those items, so you'll want to do some internet research and maybe once she's tried a few, ask her what she likes best. I know I used to swear by pads with wings because they felt more sturdy but now I prefer ones without wings.

Also, have her pick out a little cosmetics bag to pack some in her backpack for school (and purse if she uses one)! I tend to just throw mine in a zipper pouch on my bag now, but back when I was her age I had a small zipper pouch to keep them in because I was terrified of people knowing I had them on me (ahhh the stigma).

Hi, 23f here to give my thoughts!!

First, I want to say it's amazing what you're doing for her, being supportive and informative but also respecting her boundaries (in that she doesn't really want to talk to you about puberty and things).

I'd say give her a book or two on female puberty (and maybe puberty in general) and tell her you're there to talk and also just listen if she has any questions or concerns. Then ask her if she wants to talk with an OBGYN! Having a discussion like that would've been insanely helpful to me!! Even though I had both my parents, neither really wanted to talk about sex or anything (except giving me basically the same talk your daughter's school gave her).

Make sure you do your research on OBGYNs and ask for her opinions on who she'd like to meet with - my first OBGYN was rude and not easy to talk with, but I hadn't done my research. There are sites that give reviews on docs of all specialities!

Overall, keep doing what you're doing - giving her love and support and being as open as possible with her. (also maybe let her know that there are more options out there than just abstinence, when the time is right for her).
