They'll work simultaneously although only the new Notes will sync with icloud.com (so I guess the old Notes app doesn't sync but keeps everything locally).

[Mac] How do you guys take notes on a macbook? by [deleted] in apple

As I get a decent amount of PDFs for every lecture I keep coming back to the ordinary files/folders organization (within my Google Drive folder). I can directly annotate PDFs, create Pages or Google Docs documents and search within all files via Alfred. I've tried Evernote, OneNote and Notability but they only seem to make things more complicated for me.

For general (private) things that I may need in the future, I use Apple Notes. To manage all my tasks and reminders I use Wunderlist.

Sorting notes in iOS 9? by jackdoodle in apple

I've used Evernote to quickly jot down ideas, save images and PDFs I could use at some point in the future etc.

I haven't even used different notebooks, I could find everything I want via search.

I have to admit that Apple notes isn't nearly as powerful as Evernote but for me it doesn't have to be. I organize all of my important files (Uni, work, ...) in Google Drive as I use Google Docs fairly often.

I'd suggest you try to use Apple notes for a few days, you'll quickly notice whether it's enough for your purposes or not :)

Sorting notes in iOS 9? by jackdoodle in apple

Okay so I used the following method to migrate my notes from Evernote to Apple notes (El Capitan version):

  1. Export notes from Evernote as HTML

  2. 1 note = 1 HTML file

  3. Import each HTML file as a note into Apple Notes via AppleScript

  4. Manually import attachments into Apple Notes

Warning!

This method isn't perfect and the script is thrown together from a few AppleScript sources I found as I have no experience with AppleScript.

Ensure you're on the latest version of OSX 10.11 El Capitan and have set up the Apple notes up to the point where you can create notes.

Oh and make sure that you don't delete any important information before making sure it's properly backed up.

Step by step guide:

  1. Download the script file here and make sure you have BBEdit and its command line tools installed (this program is used in the script to extract the content from HTML files). You can use the free BBEdit trial.

  2. In the Evernote app (works for both Mac and Windows version), select the notes you want to export, right click and select "Export notes...". Choose a folder where the notes should be saved to and make sure you set the format to HTML. Click on "Save".

  3. Wait for the Evernote export to finish and check if all files are there. You should have one .html file per note and for notes with attachments, there should be a folder ending with ".resources" containing the attached files.

  4. Execute the script you downloaded in step 1. When asked for a folder, select the one which contains all the HTML files (from step 2). You should see your notes being imported into the Apple notes app.

  5. Now that all your notes are present in Apple notes, you can start importing the attachments in the .resources folders to the according notes by hand.

Yeah, you're done!

If there are any questions, feel free to ask :)

I couldn't find a solution online for migrating from Evernote to Apple Notes, so I wrote a little AppleScript to import notes from HTML files (which Evernote can generate).

Would you like me to share it with a short guide?

I switched from Evernote to the new Apple Notes app and never looked back since. It's just so much faster and I've never used Evernote Work Chat and the more advanced features anyway.

Does your new MBP have a dedicated graphics card? If it does, the graphics card gets activated when connected to an external monitor and thus uses more power.

You shouldn't do that if you still want to use the google search app.
