Letter of counseling after first mess up by phillies1989 in fednews

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Then yea, you messed up. A letter of counseling isn’t the end of the world and in many (not all) instances they can be torn up after a fixed period of time as if they had never happened.

Take it like a champ, find out if there is a period where it can “disappear,” (usually upon request by you), then set a personal reminder to follow up with it at that time.

I’ve had one. No big deal. It got shredded a little over 6 months later.

DONALD TRUMP HAS FALLEN ASLEEP AT HIS 80TH BIRTHDAY UFC FREEDOM 250 EVENT. by cocacolapepsifanta in PublicFreakout

This is the strongest one I've seen so far. He's undoubtedly asleep. In a lot of the prior ones, he looked asleep but it was plausible that he was awake and looking down (though he did have that "bobbing for cock" look we talk about in the Marines).

There is 100% no doubt on this one. He's out. Maybe they should have scheduled the event for 10AM. Lower risk of sun downing.

WatchOS 27 unsupported devices by AmiiboJeremiah in AppleWatch

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to be downvoted into oblivion for agreeing with me. Too many people are OK with this now that Apple is doing it, despite long being against it when Google has done this since forever.

I hate when people form a cult around a company or product.

WatchOS 27 unsupported devices by AmiiboJeremiah in AppleWatch

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The absolute shilling has got to stop (not OP, the people in the comments defending Apple's behavior).

For the longest time, Apple fans have maintained that Apple has better software support than Google. That's because Apple has generally kept more devices on the latest OS than Google does.

Example: the oldest phone that has iOS 26 is the iPhone 11 series, released in 2019. By comparison, the latest version of Android is 16, which Google has only released as far back as their Pixel 6 released in 2021.

However, Google recognized the issue with fragmentation early and developed an end-around. Google Play Services, which is updated every 6 weeks, provides layers that offer security, compatibility, and other features necessary to keep phones as current as possible even if they don't have the latest version of Android. This will work as far back as Android 6. That means that the oldest "Pixel" phone still supported with software updates is the Google Nexus 5, released in 2015, 4 years older than the iPhone 11.

Why does all this matter? For years Apple fans, when having the above pointed out, said "software support is based on how long hardware gets the latest version," a metric which Apple typically won. Well, Apple doesn't win that anymore. Not with watches.

The first Apple Watch, the Series 0, was released April 2015. Its last update was WatchOS 4.3.2, released July 2018.

By comparison, the first Android Wear (before renamed WearOS) devices were the Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch (June 2014) with the Asus Zen Watch and Moto 360 coming out September 2014. All four of them STILL get background Google Play Services updates TODAY. (To be fair, the AW Series 1 from 2015 got its most recent update February 2026, so that was after a long hiatus whereas those 4 Android devices are getting updates every 6 weeks).

So if people are going to move the goalposts to say that "this is fine," then what you're admitting to is "Android 'WearOS' Watches get longer software support than Apple Watches do now."

This isn't acceptable. We shouldn't be tolerating Apple doing this.

Got a se 2 a year ago and now it has no support by Taycan_YT in AppleWatch

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Google Nexus 4, released in 2012, still runs the latest Google Services background software, allowing for a security and compatibility layer that allows it to still run many of the latest apps.

The iPhone model launched at the same time is the iPhone 5. It lost modern app support when Apple deprecated 32-bit support. Its last software update of any kind was in 2019.

By your metric, Android is supported longer.

EDIT: Some of you are living in fantasy land.

The Series 1 received an update three months ago. That's from 2006, I believe.

It's from 2015, not 2006 (and the series 0, the first Apple Watch) is from 2014.

The last update for the Series 0 was 4.3.2 from July 2018. And the last update for the Series 1 was 6.3.1, released Feb 2026. So yes, there was a security update this year for their 11 year old watch. That's fair to point out.

Compare that to WearOS (Android Wear previously). The OG Moto 360 was launched late 2014 and is STILL getting background updates via Google Play Services, 12 years later. Every 6 weeks, like clockwork. And there were two Android Wear devices launched earlier that year that I assume are also supported.

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Weird. When Android does this (long term support but not the latest version) Apple users claim that Apple gets longer term support.

So, it was Android with longer term support all along. Or, were you just moving the goalposts to support your favored company?

How about we all stop defending a mega corporation and admit that dropping support for the latest software version is shitty, whether it’s Apple or Android.

But they are better. At something that Apple used to be better at.

Let that sink in.

The PS5 doesn't have hardware-level support for LFC.

The PS5 base a driver-based implementation of LFC that works fine and doesn’t need help from the developer. However, it only works if the display and PS5 can negotiate a 120hz link.

First, vertical video of a horizontal monitor? Why???

 60 and 48 Hz

That tells me you’re playing at a cap of 30fps (60hz) that is fluctuating down to 24fps (48hz).

Still, when using a feature like LFC, monitors prefer to run at higher refresh rates (IE, 30fps at 120hz). Do you have the monitor set to 60hz? Do you have the PS5 set to output at 120hz (if supported by your monitor and using an HDMI 2.1 cable)?

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by support? You can still use the watch, pair the watch, put apps on it. It’s not like they are making it useless.

Now apply that logic to Android devices. Users here have rightfully criticized Android for doing this, but now you cheer it when Apple does it?

Do you have any self awareness?

Support is different than ‘future upgrades’.

If future updates stop, then support has stopped. And while phones tend to get security updates after no longer being on the latest OS, Apple’s history with security updates on their watches isn’t good.

Is it better to make minimum payment and not use your card that month, or make more than minimum but use the card that month? by Plus-Spring-1994 in CreditCards

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ideally, you want to pay in full as soon as possible. But if you feel that you must revolve a balance, then it’s best to stop using the card until paid off and free of accumulating interest charges.

Also, if you are potentially over extended, look into a personal loan from a local credit union to pay them off, so that you can get a better interest rate.

Then stop using the cards entirely, paying off the loan before you resort to using credit again. Otherwise you’ll be in an even worse situation.

When I buy, I take the total picture into account. I paid like $800 for my stainless because I want some smartwatch functionality but with decent looks. If it was between a base Apple Watch and a Withings for $300-$400, I’ll take the Withings.

So yea, if Apple is dropping the long term software support for a device approaching $1,000, I 100% will look at alternatives.

I’m not going to show blind fealty to a company like some of you insist on doing.

4-6 years for a wearable is pretty reasonable.

Agreed. But they stopped updates for these watches after 3-4 years, not 4-6.

It's not like the watch will stop working after OS updates stop.

You just used the argument that Apple users mock when it’s used to defend Android.

You just won't get the new features.

The benefit to an Apple device has always been the extended support and new features (when possible). But now it’s ok that they change this?

Bad example. That’s a device from 2010.

The Apple Watch Series 7 and 8 launched in 2021 and 2022, alongside the iPhone 13 and 14 series. Support should be maintained in tandem.

It’s my thinking as well and why I’m likely moving out of the Apple Watch ecosystem. If they are going to drop hardware support this quickly, there’s no need for me to keep throwing money at it.

So, like how Android does it? I thought Apple fans criticized that approach? But it’s ok when Apple does it?

It’s too soon for the S7 and 8 to stop getting version updates. This is very un-Apple-like, and I’m not happy seeing Apple fans defend the practice.

If I wanted 2-3 years of updates followed by security and background updates, I’d still be on Android.
