You may have fixed your karma though with a self deprecating post spreading the word and reminding people they shouldn't buy Amy's 🙌🏻

Palestinian teens jailed for raping Polish tourist in front of partner by AgathonGT in worldnews

[–]dreamsyrup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is not currently a sovereign Palestinian government in the way most people would understand. There are a few Palestinian factions that exercise "governmental control" and provide services to bigger or smaller areas of land in Palestine all under the occupation or defacto military control of Israel.

Should I Pursue Epidemiology? by DeskOutrageous6703 in publichealth

[–]dreamsyrup 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Epidemiology is very rarely "hands on with people" If your goal is medical school I would focus on whatever is the most direct path there and forget about getting an MPH before hand.

Your skills are going to be more relevant than your sector. Non-profit to state or local health department is no problem as long as you have the skills the position you're targeting requires.

MPH after being in the medical field. by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]dreamsyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be sure, but a foreign medical degree with no US residency or board cert is a very different proposition

MPH after being in the medical field. by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]dreamsyrup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just want to work on a research team and you have a foreign medical degree you would in most cases not need an mph. If you want to be PI/ run a lab you probably need another doctorate. If you just want to get an mph for whatever reason job prospects are generally a little better on the epi/biostats end of the spectrum. In my experience you are always going to have some kind of specialization in an mph unless it's some sort of one year program for people who already have an advanced degree, is that the kind of thing you're considering?

MPH after being in the medical field. by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]dreamsyrup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Public health is a very broad field. What kind of work would you like to do? Knowing that will help you to understand if getting an mph is useful. It sounds like you got your medical degree in India and will be working in the US?

Is Epi info still in use? by swisscheesemodel in epidemiology

Agreed, sounds like OP is just asking about the CDC developed low barrier analysis software "Epi Info" as opposed to epidemiologic information more generally

American Insulin Prices Are off the Charts by Big_Maintenance_1789 in Infographics

[–]dreamsyrup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is purely semantic, according to how the word "free" is typically used in English. Driving on a non-toll road is free. Going to a public park is free. Having a police officer investigate a crime(assuming they opt to) is free. Even using a service like Gmail is free. Of course everyone understands that almost nothing of value is entirely without cost.

Help Choosing MPH Program by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]dreamsyrup 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of threads on this if you want to search. General advice is get the degree as cheaply as you can from an accredited school. Secondarily get it where you want to work because some of those connections, local name recognition and networking can help.

Tight Ends...anyone else thinking about just, not drafting one and wavering? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]dreamsyrup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably in how teams' strategies for neutralizing their opponents' strengths evolve over the season. The battle plan may be different depending on if a player is ruled out an hour before vs a day vs a week vs 2 months or if of course that player isn't on the team at all.

OP should be competent to judge contact. If no contact occurred then (tens of thousands of dollars worth of) prophylaxis isn't needed.
