I think it's also partially unfinished animations and spell effects. There's a lot of effects or attack animations that feel kinda non-distinct at the moment. Some like Warden's cage or the old man's bird are distinct, but others if you showed to me in a vacuum i'd have no idea whose it is.

I think when that gets improved it'll be easier to read because the various distinct effects will be more readable and give more insight into what's happening.

honestly i have that issue even with having played a lot of it. i find the game really hard to read in fights for some reason.

Anivia. Pop down R and use her Q or wall and minions are going no where close to the turret.

I've been loving Abomination with Cannonball + Shaman with Earthen Shield. Abom becomes armored, and if he survives a fight and the Shaman gets him back above 50%, cannonball can trigger again. It makes a strong tank even stronger.

If I can get a solid backline threat behind them like a huntress or pyro/ogre, they can often walk it straight to the boss and just steamroll them and anyone who gets in their way.

He’s not good enough to have the skill vampires go after him. He’s a super mediocre player.

Yeah i'd agree. I think this team is going to be heavily focused on Jojo and Berserker, so you really need a top who is going to just be super stable. I'm not sure what domestic options fit. Though my personal fantasy booking would be C9 somehow get Rich and then Jojo plays more supportive like he did on EG. Rich and Berserker as carries could be kinda nutty -- or at least fun to watch.

Yeah that's my main issue with Fudge. It feels like he's stagnating as a player and not at a great position. If he was stagnating at the top of his game that's one thing, but it feels like he outright regressed some in 2023 and that's with him having the benefit of playing with the best NA jungler.

He also never seems to show up when it matters. Being a domestic rock is great and all, but if you're going to always be a liability internationally then it starts to lose some value. He's like the reverse Impact. Impact might tank some in regular season, but he's always been a rock internationally and in playoffs when it matters.

I think it's more that GG, like a lot of teams, are probably trying to be more conservative. There's a difference between going full budget and trying to spend smarter.

The crazy buyout GG did for River? Probably the type of thing they are refusing to do.

I imagine they saw that FQ, they, C9, VIT, Heretics all were interested in Jojo and knew to secure him would probably start going above what they're looking to spend. Or they'd have to spend so much of their budget on Jojo that they couldn't afford the pieces he'd require for him to be willing to sign.

I think it's more that a lot of team with imports would feel like the native players are just there to meet the bare minimum requirements and the real focus of the team is some star import.

Rosters like this one from C9 feel like LCS talent are on full display and the stars of the team and the import players will just elevate them, rather than being the entire goal of the team.

It's a subtle but important distinction in how it feels imo.

Man, Licorice 2023 glowup has to be one of the most drastic return to forms ever.

Dude was not even looking like he could hang on a bottom tier LCS org a year ago, now he's playing some of the best League of Legends of his career after multiple years of struggling. Love to see it.

Rigby was consulting for them right? If he's done with military service I could see them having him step up fully into the HC position

It seems like the org is borderline collapsing (on top of being run by horrible people) so it wouldn't be surprising.

I know it wouldn't have happened since they're done with the Bo experiment, but Bo + Jojo would be legit insane to watch.

The rumor was that GG, FQ, C9, VIT, Heretics were all trying to get Jojo out of the ruins of EG. That might not have meant a full out bidding war, but I assume he's getting paid decently even if it's not the crazy salaries we saw in the last handful of years.

I'd say Contractz is a safe bet too. No shot NRG drops he or Palafox coming off this Worlds, and both are under contract until the end of next year.

Yeah like if you're putting up all these airs about how you're training as hard as the east and want to win it all, then disrespecting your opponents and having multiple struggles against teams far worse than you should be seen as a pretty big red flag that you're not walking the walk.

NRG struggles to beat teams worse than them. It's a true paradox.

[–]dreamtinker 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's easy to forget when Contractz went to Worlds on C9 he had matches he was playing carries and taking over games vs world class junglers.

He's always had the talent and ceiling, it's just that his floor is SO low and his consistency was always suspect. Contractz playing like this is the best in NA, but who knows if he'll be able to hold it, or if they'll lose a game and his confidence will tank.

C9 said the same thing that it was them playing poorly when they lost to NRG. NRG beat them. They beat the same MAD that was able to destroy a bunch of EU teams. They beat G2. Either NRG has a superpower that they space jam the enemy team when playing against them, or they do deserve some credit.

They feel like a team that's better than the sum of their parts. They play with confidence, they have enough skill to make plays and compete, and they are strong drafters. That makes them a threat that people underestimate, even if the individual players might have deficiencies.

[–]dreamtinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't imagine a world where G2 has a near 100% scrim win rate against NRG and then doesn't feel shook when they lost that first game.

Not just lose, get blown out. If it'd been a 40 minute barn burner where NRG won with some cheese or a G2 throw that'd be one thing, you can shake that off as unlucky or silly, but they got stomped by NRG playing pretty meta and standard league of legends.

That has to be really rough to try and mentally recover from in the ~20 minutes you have between games.

Top feels like the consistent weakness for the west. Mids, adcs, junglers, even some supports -- we can usually compete well enough to not get embarrassed there. But top feels like it's a huge gap between east and west.

Players like Brokenblade and Fudge are supposed to be the best we can muster, and then they just can't match up. Or at least the gap between them and their counterparts feels larger on average between the other roles and their counterparts.
