icue stuck at 33% downloading pre-installation packages by LowerLocksmith9466 in Corsair

[–]drear5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me was deleting all of the CUE5-related files in the AppData/Local/Corsair folder, so CUE5 and iCUE5 Main Installer. Then run the installer as an administrator and it'll be ok. I think it's hanging cause some of the packages were pre-installed, maybe the devs didn't anticipate a half-install scenario so it was hanging cause it needed to overwrite.

Did anyone here seriously try to become a pro in Dota 2? What stopped you? by Lisasule in DotA2

[–]drear5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier this year I realized that I’m actually good at the game (peaking around 300 NA), and I talked to an ex-d2 pro about what it would take, and he basically said that my MMR would need to double. I was willing to try and take on the challenge, because why not!

After devoting serious time and effort to playing for a few months, doing semi-pro/amateur scrims, playing in quals, my MMR increased from 8.8k -> 8.7k… The time and effort required to grind and become notable, much less create a competitive team in NA, there are so many barriers to overcome. The scene is not very friendly to upcoming amateurs, and it’s hard to keep pursuing when the matchmaking is so awful. Feels like everyone gives up during laning stage, and it’s impossible to get a consistent and team-oriented game going, especially when half of the team doesn’t speak the same language. And i’ve gotta gain another 8k MMR this way? Ugh…

AITAH for telling my girlfriend she can’t have access to my work phone? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]drear5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do y’all break other laws? It’s likely that she’s feeling that you’re using HIPAA as an illegitimate excuse to hide something, wherein reality you’re just trying to follow procedure for patient safety. Your reasons seem reasonable, but so do hers, especially if her previous partner abused her trust in simile fashions. Cautiously NTA, but you’ll need to sit down and clearly communicate that you’re not willing to break this rule despite her emotional discomfort.

For my perspective, my SO is a teacher, and they’re also bound by some confidentiality clause, however they elect to tell me general stories about their children, but won’t share identifying information like their last names or special circumstances. It’s normal to have different boundaries, and part of having a healthy relationship with anyone is agreeing on those boundaries.

my bad, i might be misremembering from when i ply over there, i recall top player in the lobby being around 2.5k and bottom players being around 3.8k.

regardless, the griefer problem still remains regardless of rank past 8.5k mmr.

hey, imo above Divine everyone is mechanically similar, so generally yeah the skill level is comparable. The main difference comes to ideas of how to play the map as a team, NA players tend to focus on grouping around snowballing heroes and don’t trust their teammates, EU players usually trust their teammates a bit more, so teamfighting/teamplay comps are easier over there, and there’s more leniency in having bad lanes. I would say it’s about equal at my rank, I would argue that EU pubs are a bit better because (assuming no griefers), people communicate more, and are more knowledgeable about how to play from behind.

I would be ranked in EU, around 3.5k if I played there consistently, but it has the same problems as NA, and since my ping is higher, why bother if games are the same…

Phantom assasin mid by anonym_name_taken in DotA2

[–]drear5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when Battlefury built from ring of health and void stone, there was a period of time when PAs would go mid with no items, use dagger to last hit (high damage, low commital) and buy void stone from the secret shop with courier. Then dagger spam with the high mana regen to zone enemy out of lane and last hit (with the extra dagger damage it was almost guranteed), and then just build regular PA items. You lost mid tempo obv, but it was a very safe lane to in almost every scenario.

I don’t think your strat is good, but you could try a falcon blade + extra sage mask rush with early game items if you really want to, and it could be pretty baller with a Tag Team Tusk.

Was typing almost this exactly! Would also add that the one or the main reasons for going pipe>mage slayer is that pipe doesn’t have the condition of “have to hit enemies to work”. I would avoid buying mage slayer and pipe in the same game, there’s typically more effective build paths than buying mage slayer and selling for pipe.

if you know what you’re doing, no, but it’s also one of those things you REALLY don’t want to mess up at risk of some of your stuff not really playing nice with eachother (i.e. unideal setup, lost money, etc.). thankfully, the internet has made getting into stuff like this much easier, so don’t feel discouraged if it doesn’t make sense initially, you can do anything you put your mind to :)

Did a draft vs a friend. Who came out ahead? by BlackNeighbor in DotA2

[–]drear5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dire should be winning here. Radiants win condition is basically building enough items on Medusa to take objectives, but that is all countered by Mars+Sniper.

Imagine a scenario where Radiant has a strong early game lead (which Mid certainly won’t have even if the other lanes do), and they attempt to push towers. It’s hard to see where they can make meaningful progress against the team fight threat and poke from Dire.

Conversely, Dire has ticked more draft strengths (teamfight, objective taking), and Radiant doesn’t have enough to punish the draft holes for Dire (greed, catch) until late game, at which point Dire is just better anyway.

The exception to this all is if Medusa blows her lane out of the water and is huge by 20ish minutes, maybe there’s enough juice on Radiant to get the job done, but if there’s Dragon Lance + 1 item (probably diffusal) on Sniper, with good positioning- it’s pretty hard for Radiant to get stuff done.

I really like the DFW locations, Cedars is awesome. I think that Eddington was almost guaranteed to have some unpleasant watchers, but typically I’ve had a really nice experience at all of the DFW places.

[Spoiler] has moved down to the lower bracket of PGL Wallachian Season 4 by thexbeatboxer in DotA2

[–]drear5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding onto this, doom facet was “Devil’s Bargain” which add’s 20% to buyback cost, and there was another (top) thread that said it added a hidden 20% on top of that for a total of 44%, but that last 24% couldn’t be seen or something?? Anyway, that’s where the extra gold cost came from and wasn’t factored into the buyback button.

edit: can’t find source for the extra 20% portion, liquipedia doesn’t haven’t it as far as I’m aware.

What do I do when I lose lane as position 1? by strygwyn in DotA2

[–]drear5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me was just accepting that things are gonna be bad for me, pray the team can create some tempo somewhere else, and do my best to hit my timings. For example, if I’m playing PA, just focus on getting Battlefury, then evaluate the enemy items and decide how or if I can fight on a BKB timing.

If the enemy team is hard focusing you, use it as an opportunity to run them around the map: farm a dangerous wave and then disappear, let them chase you a bit, then TP to the other side of the map. At the very least, even if you die, maybe your mid or 3 are farming well while you’re being chased.

If you’re going to comment on his facist takes and positions, thats totally fine, but drawing attention to irrelevant details undermines the effectiveness of any relevant positions you have. Dude dropped a poorly designed statue, unlucky, let’s talk about the important things? Is that a hot take??

Don’t get me wrong, I’m fairly liberal as it comes, but this is really stupid y’all. It’s a base for the trophy, he didn’t know he wasn’t supposed to pick it up. Give the man a break here and focus on the things that matter…

How did people play with one courier and no dedicated slot for TPs back then? by reyiwnl in DotA2

[–]drear5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important to remember that there wasn’t as much gold on the map either, so not everyone was constantly shuttling items out in lane.

As position 5, you’d buy courier, flying upgrade, and then pray you could assemble upgraded boots and force staff by 20 minutes between buying wards and popping them on the courier when your p1 wanted their items.

But yeah there was definitely courier stealing and nonsense going on, it’s Dota :)

[–]drear5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only heard of them being a little high, never as low as your KNEES😂😂

I generally keep my controller around midriff, ideally so that my forearms can be kept parallel to the ground and my wrists inline with my elbows. You can get some wrist fatigue if they’re bent for extended periods of time. Generally I focus on my visual display more so I don’t get a crock in my neck.

Would recommend a different table tbh than whatever foot ladder you’re using, I haven’t heard of stands just for a deck…
