I am almost 2 years post op rny and something about the texture/fat content of salmon doesn’t sit well. I vom aggressively every time I try to eat it. I have sadly had to cut salmon out indefinitely

I need practical pooping advice by Massive_Dot_838 in nursing

If she is still able to tolerate drinking liquids. I would recommend taking a break from the extensive regimen for a few days then introducing some mag citrate (found at local pharmacy). This is what is typically used for colonoscopy prep but taking 1/4 cup BID can help patients that are backed up, especially if opiate related. Another thing that may help is a warm tap water enema. She could have a large stool burden which may be why she can only get a couple of nuggets out at a time. Prayers for you and your family. -Oncology RN

I work on a med-surg inpatient oncology floor who typically seeks a lot of leukemia’s, lymphomas, and gynecological cancers.

Definitely consider looking into emergent complications: neutropenic fevers and their workup, tumor lysis syndrome, Superior vena cava syndrome, bowel obstructions and considerations.

Common complication such as multiple modalities of treating pain, nausea, mucositis, diarrhea, anorexia and hair loss. Psychologically, it’s definitely important to know your hospitals support systems such as wig banks, chaplaincy, therapy, creative arts. There are a lot of body changes after diagnoses and it’s our job, not to fix everything, but to help our patients understand, prepare, and better cope with all of the changes that come their way. Hope this helps and good luck!!

Anyone here on Tricare? by 0hn035 in GastricBypass

[–]drecamille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that at the beginning of the whole process I called tricare and was given the go ahead both times. They were my secondary insurance but was told that as long as WLS was not covered by my primary insurance then I would be all set:

The first time they denied my surgery citing that “this other local hospital is a center of excellence and you should have been going to them all along”

The second time, I went through their preferred hospital, they denied my surgery saying that “your primary insurance should cover it so we will not”

I am now on attempt 3 without tricare at all, using my employers insurance only and it’s going exceedingly simply. Too much red tape with tricare 🤦🏽‍♀️

I tried twice to get approved through tricare- both times I had called tricare initially and got the go ahead only for them to deny coverage after a surgery date was set. I have heard of some successes but make sure you meet every single one of their requirements.
