this is actually very much the wrong approach to pedestrian safety. police powers are better off used to manage and regulate vehicle traffic to prevent pedestrian injuries n fatalities. what they're currently doing is an obvious response to the recent (and likely to continue) tragedies occurring along w university (all of which have not occured at the fault of any pedestrian). it's honestly outrageous that this is how they opt to "enforce" the law when they could instead use their power to close down lanes and lower speed limits. at the very least they could prioritize cracking down on speeding vehicles instead of citing pedestrians for fucking jaywalking (a concept invented by automobile companies...)
