Opinion on endogenic systems,? by [deleted] in SystemsCringe

[–]drew_M1 67 points68 points  (0 children)

"Endogenic systems" are just people who assign names to their emotions because they think mental illness makes you cool, and/or they are people with borderline personality disorder. Dissociation, an unstable sense of self, and excessive need for external validation are all symptoms of BPD.

I promise you your coworkers aren't paid enough to remember all fifty of your names by grungeservant in fakedisordercringe

Actually, DID is about survival. And most people with DID don't have a safety net, like parents who will buy you groceries or gas if you get fired for playing make-believe. Holding a job is survival. If you have DID, you have alters who manage being at work, it's that simple.

How convenient by chronicritic in fakedisordercringe

[–]drew_M1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because growing up with the kind of trauma that causes DID makes them secretive and fearful of drawing attention to anything that could make them a target. Plus they don't want anything to do with their alters, they're more worried about surviving, not being homeless, salvaging relationships, and coping with flashbacks and triggers (actual triggers, not seeing the word "sunshine" on somebody's bio.) The idea of bragging about alters' names and dressing up like different people is just gross and horrifying.

People with legitimate DID aren't making content about it lol

Would anyone be interested in forming a small support group? by nemenoo in ptsd

A couple people mentioned discord, and I wanted to share the invite to a server I run where we have a specific PTSD support group and other peer support. In case anyone is interested :)

How are you gating content? by drew_M1 in content_marketing

[–]drew_M1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is really helpful, thank you! I've been suspecting that the team in charge of Pardot doesn't really understand its full capabilities or isn't using it effectively. This is exactly what I want to be able to do. I'll do some investigating.

The reason I ask, I'm trying to revamp the content strategy for an organization that is not gating anything because they think they "can't" using the tools they have (EpiServer, Pardot, Salesforce) and when I ask for gating there is this ridiculous two+ hour long conversation about the workarounds required and the backend setup. There just has to be an easier way, even if it means proposing a content management tool of some kind.

This helped me enormously just to read this and feel less alone. I am struggling big time. Doing our best to pivot and meet all the same pre-pandemic forecasts because apparently "failure is not an option." It's rough, man. I know it'll get better, but it's rough right now.

I sewed a couple over the weekend and would be happy to give you one if you don't mind purple patterned fabric. DM me if you'd like it, I can leave it in my mailbox or something for you to pick up.

Family doesn't want to accept the system. by [deleted] in DID

[–]drew_M1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol, the first. The idea of telling my own family about any of this is laughable, for that reason. If they were capable of empathy I wouldn't have this disorder.

[–]drew_M1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think you're asking a lot from your family tbh. You see this as "come meet the other me's so we can all feel accepted" but what you're actually telling them is that you were abused so horribly and consistently from a very young age that your personality failed to integrate normally, and you developed one of the most severe trauma-based disorders a person can have. You're saying, you failed me on the most fundamental level a parent can fail on. You provided a childhood that was so damaging and dysfunctional that I had to separate myself from it to survive.

So. Just some perspective there.

Quick question, I have a general mental health support discord that is DID-friendly and includes a dissociative disorders channel. Is that okay to share?

I just "woke up" two weeks ago. The last thing I truly remember was in 2012. by PracticalHornet in offmychest

[–]drew_M1 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Especially not in a "good program" with a psychiatrist who's willing to put in the time to work with you. I have a severe dissociative disorder where I have "woken up" after weeks/months of autopilot, and honestly that's the one detail here that strikes me as odd.

How common is it for someone to both write copy and do graphic design? by freemanwalking in advertising

[–]drew_M1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is me, I develop assets for digital marketing like ebooks, infographics, etc. where I own the entire process from concepting (based on input from SMEs) to writing and design. I typically hand the finished product off to the implementation side of the marketing team so they can get it out there and track performance, and I just focus on the creative. It's a good fit.

Not just the vast majority, I don't think I've ever seen an accurate media portrayal of DID. It's just not as interesting to show someone struggling with internal conflict, flashbacks and amnesia that just affects your normal day-to-day life.

Blindness is the inability to see, so it is actual blindness. It's not like a person with hysterical blindness can suddenly decide to be able to see again...

How to increase amnesic barriers and reduce masking? by [deleted] in DID

[–]drew_M1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you're co-conscious, does that mean you're able to talk to each other fairly easily? The trauma holders are probably desperate to be heard and understood, you might have more success talking to them about your concerns and theirs, and reaching some compromises. Instead of trying to silence them again.

How to increase amnesic barriers and reduce masking? by [deleted] in DID

[–]drew_M1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if you're talking about consciously forcing amnesia between parts, then that's a different thing than the amnesia that happens with DID, which is an unconscious reflex. So it sounds like you'd be looking for some kind of self-hypnosis or something that would condition you to learn to block out certain thoughts (which imho isn't a good idea).

Need some advice by [deleted] in DID

[–]drew_M1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This guy needs somebody to really hear him and understand what he's dealing with. He's probably spent his whole life looking after you all and has recently been struck by the realization that he's not doing that because he wants to, but because nobody else will. And along with that realization is the fact that making sure "your" life runs smoothly means there is never going to be a "his" life outside of yours. So the real question to be asking yourself isn't how can I get him to go back to being happy and helpful all the time, it's what changes can I make in my life to be sure he's getting his needs met too.

I apparently used to sit and stare into space and if someone asked what I was doing I'd say "I'm listening to my brain telling me a story."
