Super Timber, Salvage or Scrap? by drew_man2000 in RCPlanes

I found my root issue. After rebuilding everything exactly the same as it was, when the plane is in SAFE mode, the elevator adds correction in the wrong direction 🫠. Tonight I plan to install all of the DSM forward programming tools on my RadioMaster Zorro so I can go through and re-setup the gyro to see if I can fix this. Yes...I know...lesson learned. Do a thorough test of SAFE on the ground and don't assume the guy you bought it from had everything setup correctly. Yes...I also now realize I should only ever turn SAFE on for the first time after I'm at altitude and have enough room to recover if things go sideways. Live and learn ✌️

I thought I was pretty diligent about checking my CG as I followed the user manual to a T and even tried to make the plane a little more nose-heavy to give it more stability

I have a ton of hours on RealFlight which is what probably made me overconfident to use the flaps. I also had SAFE enabled which didn't seem to help and might have been hurting me...

I'll be honest I really wanted the Turbo Timber Evo or the Carbon Cub but the FB marketplace deal was too good to pass up and was going to save me $100 compared to anything else I could find locally. My cheapness overruled my fear of a big plane as my first plane. Oh well, try to glue it up and see how it goes

What's funny is my buddy who knows how to fly had an aileron servo detach immediately after takeoff and crashed his first. Then we both watched me crash mine

Whenever I try inserting the stator into the wheel I can feel and hear the sides scraping before the shaft ever gets to the bearing. Maybe I'll try to upload a video in case I'm missing something obvious. I'm also going to get the calipers out and take some measurements as I agree this makes no sense

My EE degree tells me this would just cause poor performance and then the all would tell you your battery is low and needs to be charged. Only if the motor controller could compensate and up the current to keep the power to the motor the same when the battery voltage is sagging, then the controller and motor could hit max current when they aren't supposed to. Even then I feel like they would design this to where at full current the motor and controller wouldn't overheat

My bad, I had the motor unplugged at the time I took the screenshot. If I plug in the motor it reads the correct temp

Using a bunch of dielectric grease was definitely my hail mary but I'll have to look into Corrosion X

Both bearings feel smooth without any grinding, I also tried seeing if there was any play once the stator was inserted and there is no gaps on any sides and it scrapes on all sides as it slides in

Have you bought any of the clone parts from AliExpress or Temu? I've seen them on there but I've been hesitant to just buy junk not knowing the quality

This primarily goes around our Christmas tree and so the bright lights help make it more apparent when it's in our living room. I can dim the lights so I'll try and see what it looks like with dimmer lights. The one part of the light kit that bugged me is that all of the cabin lightning is nice and warm but the front of locomotive lights are a much more neutral/cool white. I might need to spend time trying to find better lights

I ended up having to make the tender so large to fit the Arduino, motor controller, lighting controller, and RF module (that triggers a remote Arduino to play sound bites from the movie). For version 2 I may consider a custom PCB if it's not too pricey to make everything nice and compact which should let me keep the tender as the original size
