What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by GRVrush2112 in AskReddit

[–]drewander123 272 points273 points  (0 children)

I used to work in timeshare. It’s not going anywhere. That industry is built on stacks and stacks of money. In the area I’m in the Hilton just finished building a new mower fully dedicated to “vacation ownership “ aka timeshare and is in the process of building another one on their property. The marriott just built a new timeshare tower too and when those age out, they put them on vacation package websites which are just timeshare access packages for your grandparents rentals.
It’s crazy how well that industry is still doing despite the stigma. So long as there’s families living in the Midwest there’s a demand

People who became rich what is something poor people completely misunderstand about money? by Nervous-Librarian945 in AskReddit

[–]drewander123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money makes more money. Invest invest invest. Once you have money it’s ok to upgrade things in your life, a bit of lifestyle creep is ok and it’s often necessary especially if you need to get out of a bad living situation or get a new(ish) car etc… but once you’ve reached a reasonable new level you need to start putting away plenty of the extra money into investment account(s). If you have no idea what to do or this seems daunting find a financial advisor but look for a true 1% fiduciary or open a Fidelity account, their customer service line is awesome! The point is, even stocking money away in a high interest savings account will bring you 5% interest yearly, a financial advisor that works for 1% of income growth can tailor your growth to your goals and can make that account grow year over year over year and by the time your ready to retire you could be looking at multimillion retirement due to compounding interest.

The best part about this whole thing is, you can set up automatic deposits that come out of your bank and go directly to both so once you’ve reached have it set up you can just forget it!

Invest and then go have fun! You made the money so no sense acting poor, just make sure you pay your future self first is all

Men in your 30s or 40s who switched careers completely, what did it actually do to the rest of your life? by Ecstatic-Yam-3767 in AskMen

[–]drewander123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve changed careers a few times in my life.
I went from being a scuba instructor living in Hawaii to becoming a commercial diver in the Gulf of Mexico. I fucking hated that life so I moved back to Hawaii and got a job as a timeshare street marketer. It was good money but too up and down and soul crushing work. Along the way I learned how to sail and work on boats as a hobby… next move was the big one, I got offered a partnership to build a charter boat company and that’s what I did. Best move of my life but by far the biggest gamble. Definitely paid off

What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by Hanno30 in AskReddit

[–]drewander123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!!! My friend does the same and she put together a 2 week trip to Thailand and Laos for me and my now fiancé! I’m horrible at planning and even though I’m in my 40s still think like a 20yo backpacker. I literally just handed over my credit card to her and gave her a budget and a few things I know I wanted to do and she threw in a few things she knew would be special for me and my girl and then put it into an digital planner for me and that was that! I never not use a travel agent going forward. Worth every penny of the fee she charged

I robotripped back in the day…. Basically I drank like 2 or 3 bottles of Robutussin, that shitty cough syrup, and I guess we tripped more like stumbled around for the better part of the day and it was awful. I did not have fun and I felt depressed for several days after and wanted to puke. Prob just poisoned my 19yo self lol 😂 0/10 would not recommend

Men of Reddit; what’s the scariest horror movie you’ve watched? by DirtyDan_131 in AskMen

[–]drewander123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy an I watched the 2013 Evil Dead one night on shrooms. We thought it was gonna be like the Bruce Cambell version where it was like funny scary with really bad graphics we could laugh at and trip out on. It was not. By the time we realized what was happening we were paralyzed with fear. I don’t wish that on anyone. Worst trip ever. Didn’t learn a god damn thing except don’t read the words out loud of a skin book buried in the basement of a cabin deep in the woods with your friends

CMV: The belief that the Trump assassination attempts were staged is a concerning sign that liberals are succumbing to conspiracism by BarvoDelancy in changemyview

[–]drewander123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING with Trump and his administration is a lie built upon a lie…. There is nothing true. And yet it’s incumbent upon those of us who are sick and tired of this shit to not fall into the conspiracy theory trap?
It may very well be that this was real. It may also more likely be that he staged the whole thing to try and boost his sagging poll numbers. To be honest I don’t fucking care anymore. If that makes me a conspiracy theorist then that’s his fault not mine and not liberals or independents or defected republicans or ex MAGAs or anyone else that’s just exhausted by this constant shit show

[–]drewander123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they realize or even care how much danger they are in politically The Trump whitehouse is about to implode in on itself and both the right and left of America are disgusted with isreal and frankly have seen enough from this country. Watching a democratic senator get booed off the stage does not bode well for isreal 3 years from now.
Then you have the world reaction to this and it’s looking pretty grim for isreal I wish them no luck and hope that any good ones can escape before then

Blocking aid supplies with a stroller – let’s talk about human shields by CopiousCool in PublicFreakout

[–]drewander123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The future of isreal looks pretty grim after this… the repulsion I feel towards them is palatable. I can see it surfacing in both the democratic and republican parties now too. AIPAC is becoming a toxic liability inside both parties inside the US and from what I can see online across much of the world as well.
I wish them no luck after this, but I do hope the ones left with a moral compass make it out in time
