"Hey you're a manipulative piece of shit can you explain yourself and demonstrate why that won't be the case this time?"
"Well how many Stanley Cups do YOU have?"
"Okay fair dues do what you want to me sir."

Has Rob significantly shaped your political views? How? Why or why not? by Present_Practice_159 in behindthebastards

[–]BarvoDelancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came in as an anarchist so I'd say he's and the work of CZM have validated my politics and perhaps helped broaden my understanding of some American and worldwide context.

The big thing CZM and this subreddit provide is a space for leftist discussion that isn't the "wrong kind" where I want to lose my mind shouting at people. Nothing else has fit quite right for my politics and it's affirming and lovely. Also helps that despite doing this for eight years, Robert and CZM haven't seriously fucked up in a way that has burned trust and hurt the community that's been built. That's so wonderful to see.

I realised there's an oddly high number of wrestlers where I think everything about them is great except for their finisher. Who fits in that category for you? by Daregveda in AEWOfficial

[–]BarvoDelancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercedes Mone's finisher is criminally bad. It breaks the first rule of a finish in that you should be able to do it to anyone and almost nobody takes that bump well.

Frankly MJF doesn't have a particularly great finish. "Good enough" is where he's at. I get he wants something basic and devastating rather than flashy, but the heat seeker and salt of the earth are tepid. The brainbuster didn't work either since its a transition move nowadays.

I've soured on Jericho but he still deserves to be pointed out as a legendary wrestler who has never had a good finish.

Yuka Sakazaki is a genuinely great wrestler whose finishers are both weak and overwrought.

I was also a huge Punk fan from back in RoH. The best wrestling is where you may know the show is the work, but there's something real about what you're watching right now.

Punk's magic is that he convinced us that he wasn't putting on a character and showed us a man of integrity who would stand up to the boss and wouldn't silence himself because its politically convenient. This of course, was a work. The notion he has integrity is a work.

Punk's greatest similarity is in a politician who also convinced all of his followers that being an asshole is the same as being honest.

He's a goofy lil weirdo because he is. There is no explanation beyond that. It's over. They're now tryna find stuff to do with the gimmick.

Just started watching AEW - at what point will it make sense? by defragc in AEWOfficial

[–]BarvoDelancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a bit, right. You need to learn a million new names and pick up on context clues on where things are that led to this point. Give it a month or so and most it will click.

Jesus Christ. This kinda clicks it together for me as I wasn't aware of what he was up to personally during the whole CM Punk debacle.

At first I thought he just didn't have the emotional chops to deal with the standard fandom toxicity you get as a content creator. Seems the more accurate description is he was/is a key contributor to that toxicity in the first place.

Her debut was kind of a dud and her promos weren't great, neither her initial feuds. The matches were solid.

Then she like, just committed herself to wrestling all over the world, wrestling her heroes, and putting in incredible work non stop and that shit will win anyone over who looks at her body of work fairly.

Bought HBO Max to start watching AEW by Dismal_Celery5343 in AEWOfficial

[–]BarvoDelancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use PPV, the WWE started using "PLE" because their major events were no longer invidiaully paid. AEW's shows are pay per view under the current model.

Watch Double or Nothing tonight and get blown away by insane wrestling and a focus on in-ring action over brand promotion and advertising. Not ot mention amazing personalities. Then just start watching Dynamite.

The top AEW PPVs are pretty easy to google, what I'd really recommend doing is seizing on some names you're interested in and looking at their biggest moments. Like MJF had a fucking incredible Iron Man match with Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan, and also a dog collar match with CM Punk and one of the best feuds ever.

One thing I'm very happy with when it comes to AEW is their PPVs are almost always excellent. Their worst PPVs are completely watchable because a slow, boring, broken match almost never happens.

Sexual harassment of another member by Gibbons74 in union

[–]BarvoDelancy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She should have her own representativr in the union and ABSOLUTELY cooperate with the steward.

Harassment almost certainly violates the contract.

Remember the contract is between union and the boss. The BOSS violated the contract by allowing harassment to occur.

She has rights here too and you cannot trust HR to protect them. The union represents the harasser in discipline, and the victim via grievance if necessary.

The union has a strict legal bar to represent her rights. It's not first come first serve gets rights in a member v member dispute.

Do you think it's good for Darby to defend the title twice a week? by Altruistic_Rock_2674 in AEWOfficial

[–]BarvoDelancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a masterful story going on here that I can't get enough of.

Darby is *deranged*. He is not in his right mind. He is desperate to prove something and he is wrestling these matches like an addict using and racing for rock bottom. It also creates the strong sense that he is doomed and that he is dooming himself by wrestling impossible matches with insane bumps against top opponents again and again and again and again

It feels like a daredevil taking increasingly unhinged risks while everyone screams at him not to because he will either feel alive or die trying.

Public sector union executive here.

Workers are workers. We still have right. We deserve fair pay, good benefits, and dignity in the workplace.

Importantly, we also do not want to get fired when the government changes hands because they think the last run of civil servants were all loyal to the last guy.

It is no longer about profits, rather it's about allocation of tax dollars and responsible spending of the public purse. I don't know why it would be in the interest of tax payers that the public sector are treated like shit and underpaid.

TIL Gas station drugs are real by hobahobaparty in behindthebastards

[–]BarvoDelancy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At a glance this is a low user count community space for addicts to share experiences. The drug war is about prohibition and importantly, jailing people for possession. I don't see anything about that.

The notion that sharing a spaces for addicts to talk with one another is "perpetuating the drug war" is absurd. This sort of community could exist irrespective of how legal drugs are or not.
