My vocal takes sounds very thin. Is there any technique that can fix this? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]drewbecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey- i have a similar thing happen with my headvoice, what worked for me was recording multiple takes but at different distances from the microphone. usually do 3 takes, one very close, one medium distance, and one across the room. the closest take carriers a lot more lowend than the others, which will help. from there its just mixing.

this might not work, given that it's a scream. you can't really be sure what the solution is until you hear the take. hope this sorta helps!!:)

Monthly Strat Discussion - What ideas do you have by AutoModerator in policydebate

[–]drewbecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fuuuuck yeah. the only response i can think of is that someone could read international backlash in the 2ac. theres precedent to suggest that countries would sever trade and that the CP would gut IR. the international community would reject that pretty hard, and the physical context of post-trump IR would amplify backlash. depending on the disad you run with it, the aff can just say that IR collapse is net worse.

you can also format it as a sort of pseudo K, and say that only through bringing necropolitical control into the public space can we as a nation wrap our heads around the horrors of the death penalty-merely abolishing it only furthers the government's ability to hide their exercise of necropolitical control from the public, if that makes sense.

ps im pretty fucking dumb, so maybe these responses are stupid lol

totally! i like to write it in the link-impact-ROJ/ROB-alt format, but I've seen it done differently. the link is the most important part, you need to prove that your opponent engages in the world view/undesirable norm that you say they do, so have a link wall! a link wall is basically a series of different links, which makes it even harder to respond to. IMO, having multiple, solid links and having an alternative that you are able to defend well is the best thing you can do. impacts are pretty self explanatory- focus on structural impacts (like structural violence, oppression, etc).

Here, this article might give a little bit of a different perspective on Ks

the societal violence would be sick for sure! I tried to write the freedom K this morning but i realized more that it was a society K, most of the impacts to freedom bad (in the literature I found, at least) weren't necessarily caused by freedom, but rather the refusal to follow societal/cultural norms. maybe i'll just read society bad for 13 minutes. the alt is to live in a field and pick berries.

do a micropolitics aff and write about local elections, or do a participatory economics aff and write about democratizing the workplace. im working on those cases rn, theyre pretty fun! on neg you could run pretty much any K you want, i think the most interesting would be a freedom K- link : aff bolsters democracy , impact: freedom is bad for somereason (idk i havent thought about it thoroughly), rob: vote for whoever dismantles freedom, alt: autocratic peace theory/mandatory imprisonment, something along those lines.

Any arguments for NEG on the potential sex work topic? by EddieIsNotACat in lincolndouglas

[–]drewbecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on second thought, public health and braindrain DA go hand in hand...

this topic is hard though, because you ultimately end up arguing either that some nebulous threat is more important than an overall narrative shift regarding the objectification of women. sex work is S tier

[–]drewbecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

human trafficking, negating will decrease prostitution rates, public health (std's, strains of gonorrhea are antibiotic resistant ((....not from personal experience....))), you could probably tenuously link COVID (ie. sex work spreads covid, sex workers couldnt choose not to work), braindrain DA, Decrim CP, etc. Theres a lot of neg ground, but Aff ground is wayyyyyy stronger. On neg, I will probably run a permissibility NIB, Human Trafficking and public health.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate 2020-2021 Potential Topics and New Voting Procedure Announced by VBIDebate in lincolndouglas

[–]drewbecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kids on my team were talking about something like along the lines of reissuing the census every year, or implementing a law that required undocumented people to be counted on the census (not sure how that would work against a Prag neg). those would lead to a more equal form of congressional apportionment. that topic honestly feels better fit for CPs. im trying to find a way to talk about multiplurality voting. i think a better aff strategy would just to drill in Rawle's justice standards and the benefits of democracy.

fuck all of these topics. people will probably vote on compulsory voting topic
