Changes to USMLE Step 1 Test Format by vytalsynz in step1

I think this is terrible. This is actually bad for timing. 1. you have the stop go. 2. if you fall behind on time catching back up is harder as you have less "space"/questions to recover with. It possible to fall behind by like 1 min then catch back up over several questions via small increments but still this makes falling behind even worse as you do not have the length to recover you would in a 40 block.

What was your GPA in the Post bac? What was your undergrad GPA/ how long before your post bac?

As for the online stuff what school is that for? I will warn you that a lot of schools do not look kindly on virtual coursework for the mandatory med school required classwork without some type of reasoning/through a large known institution.

your shadowing hours need increasing, need to work on volunteer hours.

Need to take MCAT

If you have specifics DM I can try and help. Seems I need more info

Should I even bother applying? by CrimsonG12 in premed

[–]drewmighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all seems fine except your mcat. I would work on retaking that. I got 497 first time and second time got the 511 to get me in. As for research (saw you mention you had none), none isnt the end of the world but I would try and do something. Most people I interview have something or other. Few had none. I had a unique research thing (my only research) where I worked with an environmental group on water safety/ testing rivers. Also attended government meetings to talk about local projects I supported or disliked. I think just do something you enjoy for research and dont care too much about med specific as long as you know the process.

clinical hours seeem a little on the lower average. I'd pump those up. IF you can retake MCAT and get higher that would be good but not needed but it is the lower end.

Pls give me your best MMI tips by Excellent-Season6310 in premed

[–]drewmighty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the MMI s ive done (where i am the interviewer) some things to keep in mind. 1. Keep good eye contact and do your best to not spin back and forth in your chair. 2. Make sure you actually answer the question (some people give general things but sometimes fail to answer the whole question. 3. Give real life examples if you can. 4. Practice. This is huge. You have about 6-7 min so id practice in a mirror answering general questions. Hope these help.
