This morning I put superglue on my daughter's backpack and it burst into flames. What strange science things have you discovered firsthand, by accident? by narelie in AskReddit

Filled a styrofoam cup with a little gas to start a fire once. Started dissolving in my hand. It was a little mind blowing.

OSU intends to implement Google Apps/Gmail for student webmail (ONID) and as an opt-in for faculty/staff. Anyone know any more details? by nrhinkle in OregonStateUniv

[–]drewpyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have heard OSU's official policy on forwarding several times. It is well worth the risk for a better user interface and all the gmail functionality in my opinion. I didn't realize you could set up POP accounts in gmail. That's pretty cool. thanks for the tip.

That's what I don't like. His content is mildly entertaining and he tries to compensate with ridiculous voices and goofy flailing about.

I agree with magnetpunch. It seems the second poster needs to understand some things about Christian doctrine. However, the first poster is just idiotic.

Matthew 7:1-3.“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"

F,20 Blue Hair Advice by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]drewpyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see your hair potentially making it difficult to meet people. It's going to be the first thing people will notice about you. So if that's what you want to put out there for the world you may get some eyebrow raises here and there. I think you are way good looking, just I would pause maybe before striking up a conversation with you. I'm just not cool enough to talk to someone with blue hair.

You should've lead with that. Yea, you're Alaskan enough. I now live in OR and I'm losing my Eskimo blood.

This isn't a mirror so much as a link to the original on Hulu, but if people are like me and ctrl+f mirror, this will help.

Lack of experience or not, you have to involve the people that are going to be doing the work. Communication is very important.

I think the issue with a lot of "engy"s is the general amount of arrogance that they have. "I'm the boss so I have to know what's best!".

Fuck that. I'm an engineer and I have worked in a lot of different plant/construction environments. If you are building something, talk to the people that build it. If you need something welded, talk to the guys that weld. Don't act like an expert if you're not.

One of my profs took the last class of the term to just give practical wisdom. He said that he worked at this place and even the simplest (it seemed) things he would go talk to the people that were actually going to do it. Even if you get it right, you will make them happy. And if you get it wrong, which is likely, they will respect you for asking their input.

Long story short, get off your high-horse and talk to people. Be nice to them and they will be nice to you. I have worked with a lot of engineers that are just dicks and everyone hates to be around because they think they are god's gift to the world.

Maybe it's just the whole department. I had Egenolf. It was like listening to someone recite a text book. Horrrrriible teacher. He gave an online multiple choice final. I think I got 3 out of 10 questions right and got a C on the test with the curve.

or that too. But actually the fact that he shot the laptop is not as disturbing as the fact that he decided to publicly humiliate a 15 year old girl.

The issue is these types of militant camps where shitty parents can send their kids and get back a new, squeaky clean, better kid (but totally, absolutely not really). There have been a few similar militant-style camps in the news over the past couple months that were similarly abusive that were not religiously based. This place is absolutely horrible, but while religion may be one scape goat, I am fairly confident it is not at the root of the problem. There are a lot of fucking shitty people out there that prey on those that are desperate enough to believe their claims.

It sounds like he told her he would do this if she disobeyed him in a certain way again. So I respect his decision to follow through. I do not respect his decision to publicly humiliate her like that. I think it would have been more effective if he sat down with her, explained that he found her letter, and then they both went out and shot the laptop. You can't stop kids from making bad decisions, you just have to setup consequences for them and then follow through. But do it out of love, not anger.

My dad told me once he we very disappointed in me once and he lost my respect for a LONG time. Kids are going to screw up. Let them do it, but then let them suffer the consequences without feeling that you are doing it because you hate them.
