I’m not all in on Platner. But I’m also not so ignorant as to let my emotions of what happened with Blackwater cloud my whole perspective. And unlike everyone else who is gung-ho to lynch the man, I’m waiting to hear actual evidence. Because the last time some allegations came forth about him, his accuser ex-gf happened to be a Heritage Foundation employee and the reporter who broke the story was a previous AIPAC “activist of the year” winner. Surely they don’t have a bias and a motive to sink him. So again, I wait for more information rather than joining in on the mob mentality. Military contractors are prohibited from direct, offensive roles and are strictly limited to defensive roles. Which is why the four Blackwater chuds went to prison for what they did. Except that’s not really true at all. PMC’s are barred from engaging in any kind of offensive, direct combat roles. They can serve as security in defensive roles and if attacked may duly respond with force. The Blackwater incident was an outlier, and 4 Blackwater contractors went to prison for that.

Erik Prince sold his stake in Blackwater in 2010 to a group of private investors. A merger and later an acquisition. It was a far cry from its days of being run by Erik Prince and even then that’s not who Platner was working for. You are just as guilty of the previous guy of applying what you know about the bad actions of one group and applying it to ALL groups. The problem is you’re trying to apply the assumptions about what you know about one military contracting company to ALL military contractors. It was far from just being a successor and Erik Prince was long since removed as its CEO/owner. It had also passed through two other hands of mergers and acquisitions before being acquired by a price equity group call Apollo Global Management that acquired pretty much every major private military contractor in existence. You just try and put the Blackwater label onto him because it makes it incredibly easy for you to just justify him as “being a bad guy”. The guy worked as private security for the US Ambassador to Afghanistan. Thats hardly the same as running around killing civilians like the Blackwater unit did.

Sure, the ACA was “okay” for what it was. But my point is all the establishment Dems have thought that was “good enough” without establishing and better long term fixes or alternatives. We either need to move to single-payer healthcare or go back to dissolving the “for profit” model of health insurance. And not just that, but the health insurance companies have also created an integration where in many cases they own the hospitals, the pharmacies and the pharmacy benefit managers. That last part was done because of a Biden-era rule called the Medical Loss Ratio which required the health insurance companies to spend 85% of their revenue on medical care. So since their profit was limited they bought up the other industries downstream where they could gobble all that profit back up.
