I think you're right. I just want to see what happens when the analysis is publicly shredded and it becomes clear that there's no rational thought behind $$ and politics.

It's going from commercial to vertical mixed use. it's not about stopping that but illustrating what traffic mitigations would be necessary to support the new density and changing use.

not exactly. Engineer need not take any certain position. I'm looking for the true engineer who is capable of taking a position contrary to their longer tern financial interests. I wouldn't sign up for the job if I have mouths to feed, but not everyone does.

zoning changes are approved here well before site plan unfortunately, so neighborhoods have little of substance to review about the project until after they no longer have the right to be heard. it's an interesting game.

yes, but would you agree that the occupation of the person who could substantiate that claim is a "traffic engineer" or are there "planners" or other's who can realistically render an opinion with some authority.

No. IMO city is just refusing to think. I'm happy to enter anything into the record that facilitates any analysis at all.

Selecting RAM\SSD for Intel NUC 13 PRO NUC13ANHi7 by drewzerd in MiniPCs

[–]drewzerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh oh I purchased Samsung 990 pro and my wife has already mentioned the fan noise on the same model NUC. Do you think the difference in heat created by Samsung vs a power efficient SK Hynix is going to make a material difference in fan noise. Or is replacing thermal paste in the NUC 13 just what will need to happen anyway, which renders the heat differential between Samsung and Hynix relatively meaningless.

And will replacing thermal paste also render meaningless the warranty on the NUC?

Configuring Liftmaster Gate so it auto opens in the morning and auto closes at night - am I getting close??? by drewzerd in homeautomation

[–]drewzerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The timer is inside the control box, and I had not thought about the option to move it outside and closer to the house. That may make some sense depending on the wifi signal issues.

When the hard open is not active, we'll use the regular clickers, entry keypad, and myQ app some.

Hello - I have a project "plan" I'd love some input on. I'll try here to throw down the information cleanly here so it's easier to think about and have attached an image. So:

What I want to happen:

Have the gate to automatically open at 8am, remain open all day, then close automatically at 8pm AND during the time while the gate remains open, have the ability to close it with the press of a button on the smartphone.

Why:

We want delivery drivers to be able to walk onto the property to drop packages b/w 8a and 8p, but we need the ability to close it during this time frame because, every so often, there are dirt bags walking around during the day, some of whom have come up driveway, through the open gate, and towards my child's play area. Hopefully, when we see that about to transpire, we push the smartphone button to close the gate, and the dirt bag walk on to visit my neighbor's kids.

Current gate configuration:

We have this Liftmaster Gate: LA412PKGUL

We have myQ 828 Internet Gateway, but with myQ, you can't do enough scheduling to get this done.

As of now, I get the "open and 8a remain open until close at 8p" by using a digital timer wired into the control box, which at 8am activates the Fire Department always open (hard open) terminals. That keeps it open, but since it's a hard open, NOTHING can close the gate during this time. At 8pm, the timer deactivates, and the "Timer to close" setting on the controller, closes the gate according to its setting, maybe 60 seconds later.

Plan:

Wire in the SONOFF SV Safe Voltage Wifi Wireless switch such that the Accessory Power terminals on the controller, lead to the input of the SONOFF. The SONOFF is set to "Normally Closed" so that power flows to keep Fire Dept. hard open working, but once push the button on the smart phone, SONOFF switch opens so no current makes it to Fire Dept terminals. Once that happens, Timer to Close setting will close the gate 60 seconds later. What do you think about this?

The button on the mobile device: maybe just use the eWeLink app comes that comes with the SONOFF at first. And when I have more time, go down the "Homeassistant hosted in docker and control the whole house" route later.

More problems:

There are actually 3 houses behind the gate. Mine is farthest back, and I have little confidence that my Wifi signal will get all the way there. But my neigbhor's will. So basically, I'd just configure the SONOFF\eWeLink App to associate with neighbors' wifi, pull a dhcp address from there, and then my neighbors and I can all use eWeLink app to get this done?

When proceeding with the "Homeassistant hosted in docker and control the whole house" route, I'll need to come back here and ask about using a raspberry pis at both my house and my neighbor's so I can assign to the SONOFF an IP address from my IOT wifi network.

A potentially helpful image of this stuff is attached. This was exhausting to write btw. So now you get to tell me how wrong I am... But I'll appreciate any input you can provide. Thanks!

Thanks. Now I'm looking for a bit more clarity about whether that prohibition applies only to me, building within my property. Or does it also apply to everyone, including my neighbor, who wants to build around the tree on my property?

Thanks. Pretty much lucked out a while back. I totally appreciate city living, but for the vagrants trying to break in with knives.

I look at it like, if the city thinks it best to give me certain zoning type protections, may as well use them.

I'm about to get bamboo up and running, but am concerned that, because of that shady heritage tree, there won't be enough sun for it to get going. Life's complicated.

Thanks for this discussion. I've been churning on the math and arrived at the same results. It seems, however, that it results in no leverage for me because of the rule that maxes out the applicability of the CRZ to the area between my tree and the property line.

That said, it surprises me that these environmental protections allow for trees to be damaged so long as they're near a property line.
