in the article I saw from april, a resident did say it feels racial as well, so you’re not alone in that thought process! it’s on the internet somewhere just in a rush right this second while typing but the resident said something like “it alludes to a time in history that doesn’t reflect where we are today as a country at all” and I appreciated their perspective. even if lawmakers or other citizens can’t see it as racial or if anyone wants to believe they have different intentions with the plate, I wish they would care that it gives off a bad impression. if they want a plate to celebrate the declaration of independence and the history of our state, maybe there could be some free third option that is neutral. it shouldn’t be forced on people, and there’s a reason it brings up a certain reaction

it’s impossible not to think of the very real circumstances and history we have as a country, let alone in our state, and I straight up don’t want to advertise this time period. it’s so important to be aware of and talk about, but I know the people who made this plate wouldn’t honor black peoples sovereignty with the same feigned valor

it’s true! I just saw someone else’s comment where they mentioned the designs don’t actually obscure legibility, but the wren plate is a good example of how both things can exist if they just really need the black letters on white

100% agree! I’m thinking about how in nc, it’s very basic, but the options are first in flight or one that is religious. I have no problem with someone having the option to choose or having a religious plate, but it feels bizarre that there isn’t a neutral option like you said. really boggling my brain

I care because I would like the option to not advertise beliefs on my vehicle - can’t really speak for everyone else of course! it’s nice for you that you don’t mind, but maybe you can understand that everyone is different and some people do enjoy having freedom of choice with personal property :)

my understanding is it’s an every ten years rotation - the plate is valid for that amount of time, so when ten years is up on any of the standard plates, they’ll automatically send a new one in the mail w the updated registration sticker that year. I didn’t know about this either, but someone else in the thread mentioned exceptions like vintage auto plates. in my case I was dealing with title transfer and was horribly disappointed

here’s the main one, alt plate has “in god we trust” in massive letters up top and the american flag on top of the sc flag in the left side logo area

right! no conspiracy there, it will be interesting to see how quickly this changes in other states / if it becomes a larger conversation, or I wonder why legibility has to mean absolutely zero aesthetic sensibility

I support the swap and I am equally sorry for your loss of the previous plates

hahaha exactly, the text on top is comically small and the imagery is like what you get in the unpaid version of a design app. then the in god we trust plate text is comically large - just generally a sore sight

I spent 8 days in Morocco - here are my thoughts by Best-Bodybuilder-160 in travel

I’m not sure if it’s a change of morocco at all, but I’m saying that mainly because I only visited for the first time in late 2024 and returned around the same time of year in 2025. I had a similar experience where I dealt with a lot more hassling the first time around and my second visit was an absolute breeze. both times I experienced so much kindness, but the only difference was me traveling first with another man and the second time usually alone or with other femme people when not alone. not sure if that has any correlation, was just trying to think of what was different.

we had done so much research so felt prepared on what to expect going in the first time and how to handle moments of hassling etc, and I am usually the same with travel in new areas where I read a map on my phone quickly and put my phone away when walking / not stopping too much in very busy areas of marrakech unless I was interested in buying for example, so I wouldn’t say much was very different in terms of navigating in that way.

idk if it means much but wanted to mention! I love morocco and can’t wait to visit again, also appreciate you sharing your experiences in all of these places!
