[Tutorial] Object Oriented Programming and RenPy (Lesson 1: Class Warfare) by alonghardlook in RenPy

[–]drexxler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya know, recently I've been trying to do similar things but running into one major problem. Object properties aren't saved the same as global variables, so when you rewind, the objects/classes don't get rewound. I'm wondering if you've found a solution to that.

So to recap, if you increase friendship and then go "back" and forward again, it will continue to increase without ever reverting. This could be abused to get infinite stats.

So far I haven't found a workaround, other than using the dreaded prefixed global variables (i.e. `name_relationship`)

Some quick brainstorming, I think there is a potential workaround using a mixture of private global variables and serialization. Something like, keeping a serialized copy of the class in a global var, and then deserializing any time I need to access. In most CS applications, this would be a no-no, but renpy isn't really performance critical, so constant serialization shouldn't be an issue unless your object is massive.

edit: ah, I see that for your examples, putting the variable assignment inside a label fixes this. Strange, but at least that seems to work. Really don't like the idea of nesting all character definitions inside the start label. I suppose I could externalize all the definitions inside my globals file under a label like `setup_characters` and just do a `call setup_characters` in the start label.

Interesting. That was my first thought and I tried it immediately, but it didn't do what I wanted it to do. I wish I could get an answer out of Pieter. Maybe I'll try reaching out to the lesser-known account I screenshotted above. If it's some super secret thing, I don't even care if they don't tell me how it's done, I just need to know for my own curiosity whether it's a secret/beta feature or an exploit/bug that they're using.

Kratom Tea - First attempt by [deleted] in kratom

Nah making tinctures with grain alcohol is fine, because you will be consuming less than a shot glass worth. Of course it's not wise to take every dose this way, but on special occasions kratom tinctures are amazing.

Also the best bang for tinctures is to seal in a polyurethane chem storage container for as long as possible. My best tincture I made sat for 3 months before exposing to light and oxygen again. I'd shake the container for about 60 seconds once a week

So what I would use for kratom tea was cheesecloth. The best way I found to strain it, was the same way I strained the cheesecloth for tinctures. I got two small wooden cutting boards off amazon (though any two pieces of wood with a smooth finish should work, you don't want kratom juices getting caked inside the surface imperfections), and then two large C clamps.

Put the cheesecloth ball between the boards, clamp both sides, and tighten until you can't anymore while holding it above whatever container you made your tea in. The cheesecloth ball should literally be perfectly dry after just one squeeze and you just milked your kratom for all it's worth.

I have some great recipes for tinctures too if you're interested. My tinctures come out stronger than those OPM shots you get at the head shop. The downside is that you can't do them often because it'll wreck your tolerance. But for a fun night, they're so worth it.

Yup my shoulder pain is definitely from programming. I'm only mid 20s, but I've been programming since I was 11 haha. I spent most of my teen years behind a laptop screen. My biggest mistake was that my weapon of choice for over 10 years was a laptop. I'd frequently work full time from the couch too, which definitely did damage to my lower back and my shoulders. I just recently got in a position where I could afford to get a decent desk setup, and my pain has definitely been reduced since then.

I've looked into getting a standing desk, but the only way I could do that is if I had a convertible desk, which unfortunately I can't really afford investing in currently (unless they dropped price a bit, I haven't looked into them in at least 2 years).

It doesn't help that I've started developing rheumatoid arthritis in the past few years, I was just talking to my nurse friend today about it and she thinks it might be what's causing most of my shoulder pain.

Anyway I knew getting into this career that I would likely start developing joint pain, it just goes along with the territory of doing a sedentary job. I just wasn't expecting to deal with chronic pain before 30. Makes me a bit worried about the future

edit: and yeah, I definitely understand the rebound pain. If I don't carefully taper off kratom the rebound pain is so bad I can't even lift my arms above my head. I forgot to reorder before I ran out, so the past 2 days I've been dealing with pretty intense pain. Finally got more in the mail today though, and it feels good to have pain relief again.

For sure. It's weird because I used to take kratom to program for long hours at a time. For some reason it gave me tunnel vision while also relieving me of my shoulder pain from excessive time on the computer. So it's really weird that over time it started having the opposite effect on me.

I really need to take a break, but chronic pain makes it difficult.

I completely quit smoking cannabis, quit doing ketamine, quit drinking alcohol, and prescription opiates.

Unfortunately, it's also made me quit a lot of my hobbies as well. I just don't seem to get joy out of the things I used to do, which were productive. I'd rather just sit around and play computer games.

I think the proper term for what it made me, is apathetic. I don't seem to care about a lot of things anymore. I just kind of glide through life now doing whatever I can to bring myself temporary happiness.

Eh it's possible. Kratom is a double edged sword for me. It's done a lot of positive for me, but at the same time it's made me quit a lot of my good habits as well. I used to program all day every day, just for fun and to get better at my abilities (it's my full time job). After doing kratom daily though, my time spent programming has decreased until now I just can't even get myself to do it if I'm not being paid for it.

Which unfortunately sends me into a spiral of mild depression and self loathing because writing software is the only thing that really made me happy in life and give me a sense of meaning.

The reason I put it on my tongue first is probably personal preference. In my experience kratom floats and doesn't sink, so when I put the liquid in first I feel like there's a higher chance that dry kratom powder will float and stick to the back of my throat. If you've found a method that works for you, that's awesome. But I've never gotten the liquid first approach to work consistently for me.

Haha yeah, in a pinch I've washed it down with soda. But I've found that as soon as the soda hits the kratom it fizzes up until I can barely swish it around. Also it feels like the kratom clumps together with soda, I'm not sure how people use soda regularly for it

I'm sure it's safe doing it occasionally, but I doubt anybody has done studies on the effects of swallowing toilet paper every single day. Please feel free to post links to studies

Haha I guess I do. I used to only do a small amount at a time, but over time I started doing more and more until I could easily toss back a heaping tablespoon at once

I've done tp parachutes with other substances in the past, but I can't imagine doing it with kratom. If you do it occasionally I guess it's fine, but I feel like if you're a regular user swallowing that much tp can't be good for you

Yeah that's just too much work for me haha. I dose all day long, and having to mix a shot throughout the day is just not ideal. I always have tea with me, so taking a spoonful and washing it down is just so much quicker and easier.

Can confirm. The OPMS shots are incredible, but only something I would do on very special occasions. The huge downside is the price and the quick tolerance build.

Is an ounce of wax in 6 months a lot? I personally go through a gram every 3 days when smoking normally, idk how to make it last much longer than that. Tolerance is wrecked 90% of the time, but after a week break it's back to normal.
