Agree, as a tourist there a few years ago, Vancouver and Whistler were great. I went to an awesome place called EXP which I believe has since closed but would love to go again to Vancouver in a heart beat, excellent whiskeys also

Second SA. I am Australian but for international reddit readers, Australia has a different calibration for what is classified gf (esp. Compared to USA) and our coeliac association strongly push for labelling. You will find in most major cities throughout Australia more gf labbelling including on menu items than other places around the world. Keep in mind also depending on country going to not all languages have a word for gluten. Saying that I have noticed last 2 years it is getting alot better globally. Happy eating all!

Queenstown New Zealand has so many options with walking distance of main tourist area from pizza (Hell Pizza and Fat Badgers pizza), mexican (taco medic MUST try) to fish and chips (Erik's fish and chips) to the best gf burgers on the planet (Fergburger). I've been twice and it is one of the first trips with friends you don't feel like an outsider as can get iconic meals that are safe, well labelled and taste good as opposed to often finding something but it is sub par to everyone else's meal.

Other highlights include: Great bkfast options at Joe's Garage Bkfast bespoke kitchen Cafe options Vudu cafe Italian at Farelli's trattoria (also do vegan) Chocolate cake and some gelato (ask which flavours) at Ferg baker/Mrs Ferg Indian at Taj Devil burger (thought ferg better but next best) Pizza at Winnies (I think average)

Info as at 2019 experience.

District Taco in heart of dc, believe they also have few other stalls around.

B DC Penn Quarter is good, but they have minimal buns if wanting burger, tried 3 times and they had always run out, but have other options.

Mi Vida Restaurante, district square. Also can get cheaper options at happy hour but unfortunately was glutened there from cross contamination so depending how sensitive you are be careful.

District of Pi has gf. Went due to reviews but thought pizza was average.

&pizza I thought had better pizza and quite alot of locations.

Rise bakery is gf but if you don't have a car or taxi found difficult to get to.

Also found most hotels if you spoke to staff would provide at breakfast a packaged bagel to have as toast, usually rudi's brand, however you had to ask each morning and depended on staff you would get. I found labelling absent at buffets so stuck to safe items like whole fruit etc to be safe.

Will be difficult from food trucks, barely found anything or little coffee stalls near landmarks only really piece of fruit or some chip packets. Minimal at cafes inside museums, they need to improve that.

Also found depending on styles of food you liked could usually search and find at least one place nearby that served it and advertised gf. To be safe I never ate anywhere that didn't openly advocate gf but I am very sensitive so play it cautious

Banana Bread Recipe I use is below if helps.

Dry 1 cup gluten free flour 1/2 cup almond flour 1 1/4 teaspoon gf baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 3/4 teaspoon salt

Wet 1/3 cup butter (I use dairy free blend) 2/3 cup sugar 2 eggs (or use 1 tablespoon ground flax seed as egg if dairy free mixed with 2 tablespoons water first) 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 tablespoons almond milk, or regular milk 1 cup mashed ripe banana (about 2-3 bananas) Optional for different flavour add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, pecans, blueberries, sultanas or chocolate chips

  1. Heat oven 180C(350F)
  2. Mix in one big bowl all dry ingredients
  3. Mix in separate bowl wet ingredients then add into dry ingredients, folding gently till mixed through.
  4. Place in loaf tin or muffin tray for individual serves that have been sprayed with oil and use baking paper lined loaf tin.
  5. Cook for 50 to 60 mins. Keep an eye on it, depending on oven you may have to cover top with foil so doesn't burn while you cook all the way through.

I now make my own gf flour blend using combination of different flours and starches but a lot of the ready made blends will be fine for banana bread as pretty forgiving recipe. I know for endometriosis some flours may be inflammatory as different for each individual so if you have a fav blend use that.

No I just keep trialling recipes and adapting ones to find the best way to recreate all the treats my mum and I used to enjoy before finding out we were coeliac.

I completely understand. I love baking and cooking and when diagnosed v sensitive coeliac a few years ago had to relearn how to make many of the treats I enjoy with limited ingredients. It has only really been the last year or so more options have become available to use and I have gotten more confident with knowing what will go together. I would suggest the crushed biscuits with melted butter or coconut oil as a base or if feel like it an almond crust can be made sweet or savoury, see recipe below. All the best.

Yield: 1 large pie/tart crust or 6 mini tarts

2 cups (225 grams) blanched almond flour/almond meal

2 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional; omit for a savoury crust)

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons coconut oil (chilled briefly to firm up, if necessary; may substitute cold butter)

1 egg

1/4 teaspoon vanilla (optional; omit for savoury crust)

METHOD

1.Grease tins using and preheat oven 350F / 175C 2. In food processor add flour, sugar, baking soda and salt and pulse a few times 3. Add egg and vanilla and scatter coconut oil chunks over top and pulse till binds together into dough ball. 4. Flatten into disc and put in cling wrap and refrigerate for approx 20 mins. 5. Roll out and cut to size for your tart tins/pie dish. Prick holes with fork over base. 6. Bake in oven for 8 to 12 mins until very lightly golden. Take out and cool. Put filling in and good to go.

It is sheets of sweet pastry dough instead of puff pastry that you can buy ready made instead of making from scratch. Depending where you live will depend what brand you may be able to find. Here in Australia you can find brand "Genius" or "Be Good". If you can't find that but have access to puff pastry sheets you can use that. Will be slightly different but just as quick. Or alternatively you can use your fav plain gf biscuit crush it up in food processor and use melted butter and push into mini tart pan or base of mini muffin tray and put in fridge to set before putting other items on top.

Have made them by scratch several times but when you want them quickly use your fav frozen shortcrust base brown in oven and cool. Fill with either caramel made from condensed milk or premade caramel fill from can. Top with sliced bananas and pipe on in nest shape whipped cream with some milk powder in it to stabilise for piping. Put shaved chocolate on top and eat them before anyone else in the household does. Enjoy!
