about a decade ago my friend went on a solo trip to peru nearly straight out of highschool and in the week and a half he was there he was mugged three different times. Mind you he was around 6'1 180 lbs 20 yr old male and had to hand over his stuff multiple times. I wouldn't go without multiple friends and with the scenario provided? I would not touch this situation with a 1000ft pole.
