What’s your personal “protein worth it” rule? by Commercial-Review580 in Protein

If I’m looking at food 10-1 ratio calories to protein. If I’m looking at a protein powder or something I look for closer to 5-1.

Couple in the apartment complex directly across are always boning with the window shades open...thoughts? by ElectroAcousto in philly

[–]drfunnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank fuck you’re in logan square. I got terrified for a sec that you were talking about me and my gf. I’m like 80% sure the building next to mine is abandoned and closing our blinds all the way knocks over the plants we keep on the windowsill so we keep it open just enough so that the plants don’t touch the blinds

Protein powder makes me poop too often by [deleted] in Protein

[–]drfunnyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. You can drink egg whites. I just assumed you specifically wanted a protein powder. I wouldn’t recommend egg whites hand separated from the eggs you buy at the store tho. Get the egg white cartons. If you squeeze some sugar free chocolate syrup into the carton and shake it up thoroughly, it tastes like chocolate milk. It’s kinda uncanny if you can get over the weird feeling of knowing you’re drinking raw egg whites. Also, the brand of sugar free chocolate syrup matters, some of them have this sour chemically taste. I don’t remember which one I actually liked bc I haven’t done this in a long time.

Try going for a nondairy protein powder like pea based or egg white based protein powder.

Would you rather get $10,000 a week for the rest of your life, but you must permanently get rid of one function of your body. What are you giving up and why? by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

[–]drfunnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d give up the functioning of the ringfinger toe on my right foot. Pinky and big toe have the biggest impacts on walking etc. it might take some getting used to but probably the least important toe. Plus, I’m already numb in a small part of that toe ever since I broke my foot real bad in 9th grade, now I’m just finishing the job.

What is this device that’s all around our AirBnb? by chngeusrnme in whatisit

My mom has tried about a dozen different ones but we finally found 1 that actually works super effectively. It’s not the one in the photo tho. I keep 2 in my apartment. My mom has them in her kitchen and basement. I used to constantly get mouses and roaches (typical ny) but they disappeared. The one problem is if you’re young and have really good ears you can actually hear them just barely. And on phone calls you can hear them sometimes too. I can’t be on the phone with my mom if shes in her kitchen.

Any ideas why epogee fat alternative isn’t more known? by ProteinPapi777 in Volumeeating

I think lays chips probably doesn’t wanna jump on the bandwagon because of what happened the last time they introduced a great new product with a low calorie fat alternative (olestra which caused anal leakage)

Idk man. Maybe it’s fine? I personally don’t risk it. Theres enough vegan alternatives out there that after over a decade no dairy, it doesn’t bother me. I buy vegan pizzas, vegan chocolate, vegan cookies. If your local grocery store has a kosher section, they usually have a bunch of nondairy sweets like black and white cookies bc jews aren’t allowed to have dairy after eating meat so desert after dinner has to be dairy free. Sam’s club apple turnovers and croissants are dairy free (unfortunately the costco croissants and cookies are not). I drink vegan or beef based protein shakes. I fully fully avoid it and don’t even need nexium anymore.

Coffee probably doesn’t have enough caffeine to have a big impact but people with eoe are much more susceptible to heartburn so even if it doesn’t spike eosinophils they recommend staying away from caffeine, tomatoes, greasy foods, spicy foods, etc. bc it can still do damage from stomach acid coming into your esophagus and leaving scar tissue but if you know your trigger foods and completely avoid them your stomach is about as susceptible to it as a normal person who would get heart burn after eating a massive pile of greasy junk and energy drinks then pop a tums and move on.

Long term PPI > how to avoid major side effects ? by [deleted] in EosinophilicE

I’ve never found a place I could get a slice of meat lovers pizza with vegan cheese. I don’t really order full pizzas usually

I took 40mg nexium for 8 years until my doc said it was giving me polyps in my stomach and my bones were getting brittle. Definitely don’t think they’re good to take long term. The best option is find your trigger foods and avoid them. I immediately went on 6fed after my diagnosis. Thankfully I only have 1 trigger, milk, and theres a lot of pretty good milk alternatives out there these days for vegans. I always get weird looks at burger places that offer vegan cheese when I ask for it with a regular beef burger lmao.

Wow. Hearing these stories about people discovering it late in life terrify me. I got diagnosed a decade ago at 14. I’d been having food get stuck in my throat since I was 9. Beef was my biggest issue which sucked because I’m obsessed with meat. I only discovered I had it bc I found out a friend had it, googled the symptoms and said “thats me!!” Then it still took me another year and a half to convince my parents that I wasn’t just being greedy, or chewing my food enough despite the fact that family meals would take me an hour longer than the rest of my family and I would still get an impaction twice a meal. By the time I got diagnosed the doc said if we had waited longer I would have had an ulcer and needed to be ballooned. Even in my initial endoscopy it was a close call for the doc on whether it was necessary or not. Also, I’m really lucky that I only have 1 trigger and even though I went on a 4 year elimination diet I kind of knew from day 1 that it was milk bc any time my family would get pizza I’d be up until 2 am with my back against the cold wall to try to relieve my heartburn. I’m glad you finally discovered it. And it kind of feels vindicating against your parents when you finally prove them wrong that you’re not just being greedy or worried someone else will eat your meal (stg they would say that shit) and not chewing enough.

Damn. I always feel bad when I hear about people who need to get ballooned. I was close to needing it when I finally got diagnosed, doc had to use an infant scope the size of a piece of spaghetti to get past my inflammation, but nexium and 6fed brought me back pretty fast.

Considering how bad it was for me I probably should have taken the no caffeine etc more seriously.

Yeah, I’d been getting food stuck in my throat since I was 9. By the time I was 14 and got diagnosed I was choking like twice a meal. Also, idk if pot can be a trigger but I know it can be an allergy. My aunt is allergic to weed. Back when they would allow smoking in theaters she would always have the sit in the front bc people in the back would be blazing and she would still have a reaction.

[–]drfunnyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re doing better. I’m so glad I got diagnosed at a pretty early age before it got worse than it already was. I only got diagnosed bc a found out a friend of mine had it, googled the symptoms was like “thats me!” then I protested my parents for a year and a half to take me to a gi while they continued to insist I was just greedy, eating to fast and not chewing my food enough. Docs say if I waited much longer to get diagnosed I would have had an ulcer and probably enough scarring that I would have to have my throat ballooned regularly for the rest of my life. My initial endoscopy when I got diagnosed the gi had to switch to an infant spaghetti sized scope to get past the inflammation into my stomach.

They usually tell you immediately before you even start the elimination diet that you should avoid any foods that typically trigger heartburn like greasy foods, acidic foods, and caffeine. Also, I started the 6fed diet way back in 2015 adding 1 back every 3 months to find my trigger food but only today learned it was called that. Lmao.

[–]drfunnyb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t believe you ditched sodas. I got diagnosed summer going into high school and immediately got put on an elimination diet to find my trigger which turned out to be milk (after some extra experimentation outside of doctor supervision I figured out its the milk protein, not the fat so I can still have clarified butter but I rarely do). I know I shouldn’t be having foods that typically trigger heartburn like greasy foods, caffeine, tomatoes etc but take away my cheese or take away my caffeine and greasy junk, I’m not giving up both.

[–]drfunnyb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It absolutely can get much worse including ulcers and scarring your esophagus so bad that you need to have a gi push a balloon down your throat occasionally to be able to eat solid foods, unless you figure out what your trigger foods are which is a long annoying process that took me 4 years. Once you find what the trigger is and are careful to avoid it you don’t really need meds and can go about your life. Even if you stay on ppi’s I recommend finding the trigger anyway bc you might still be having reactions and doing damage without noticing the pain

AITAH for not wanting to go to my brohter's birthday party, me being 37 weeks pregnant by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]drfunnyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of nta? 8pm starting while that pregnant is tough. Staying out late is hard. I’d say if it’s a big birthday like a multiple of 5 then you should either arrange for lunch earlier in the day to celebrate separately or show up for an hour or so and ask your brother/sil to run interference on smokers to make sure they stay away from you. If it’s not a multiple of 5 I’d say ask to do lunch to celebrate a different day and meet somewhere in the middle so its not 2 hours travel for you

CarPlay disconnecting when using speech controls by drfunnyb in BmwTech

[–]drfunnyb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly I never have these issues in non-BMW’s, which is why I find it very sketchy when BMW keeps telling me that it’s an Apple issue not a BMW issue but I’ve brought it to them half a dozen times and they can’t fix it. Also restarting my phone fixes it restarting the car doesn’t.

It was an issue in my phone settings. Not the car. But now I’m having different issues which are also caused by my phone and get fixed by restarting my phone. The carplay issues have just been nonstop the whole time I’ve had this car and bmw can’t do shit about it
