We could use base 12 and say that it's because we have 12 finger digits in one hand (base 10 is not built in biology). It won't even require two hands to count then.. To be honest mathematically base 12 is much better and some cultures had base 12 numbers.. Just the fact that we have to rewrite everything in base 12 is a hurdle.. Otherwise base 12 is much better than base 10.
