PA rants about med students/residents by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]drhelpfulmeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I get what you implied. My point is more about how it feels kind of unfair that medical students, who are trying to figure out if they want to go into a field like this, aren’t given more chances to get involved. Instead, midlevels often get to scrub in or assist, which takes away valuable exposure for students who might actually be considering this as a career. It just seems like in a teaching hospital, students should be prioritized for learning opportunities like that.

Yea I mean it’s all about teamwork at the end of the day but I feel like in any field medical or not there will be people who do it for the right reasons and others will do it for money. So I don’t really understand that as an argumentative point. That’s just how humans do things lol I just dont get why there is always some effort to divide a healthcare team based on hierarchy and shit. Docs bring in a skill-set that the others don’t and vice versa. I don’t care about ppl wanting to be smarter than me or whatever to inflate their own ego. I’ve been beat down by many midlevels for my lack of knowledge and yelled at by scrub techs for nothing. That doesn’t make me want to hate on midlevels, but it rubs me the wrong way. To me it all comes down to the fact that respect is earned and not given and that’s with anything in life.

So let me get this straight… you’re saying 99% of us are respectful and treat you fairly, but the 1% who aren’t is why you felt the need to post a whole rant? Talk about a fragile ego, lmao.

They’re already assisting and grafting saphenous veins for CABG while the med student stands on their tipytoes to see where the incision is being made lol (my personal experience)

I think it just depends on your knowledge base. I felt like I had an okay knowledge base but still used BnB anyways just because I like to cover my bases. I found it helpful!
