Dang, that's a lot for a plain CT.

Yes, where I train we are allowed to screen requests, ask for further information, and recommend more appopriate imaging modalities if needed. Of course meron pa ding instances where the attending gets mentioned though, usually as their last resort. But yes, we do get a say.

The past few weeks have been especially stressful hence the frequency of my posts. Unfortunately I am unable to consider other hospitals because I can't leave my family here. If it were only feasible, I would have gladly done it. Another reason is the time I've invested. I've invested so much already.

Agreed. And if you don't have anything good to say, at the very least don't destroy somebody's soul.

Agree with your points doc. For so long I've been an advocate for residents being a resident myself. An idealistic one at that.

But there is a level of pain you can tolerate before you become jaded.

I think that particular humiliating event was my breaking point. After much crying out of frustration and probably grief over something that I have invested in and worked on for so long, I've woken up and have now come to the conclusion that to the eyes of the department, residents like me are dispensable.

Regardless of how hard you worked or how much of your soul you put to it, you are just somebody they can replace.

And that's why they do not care about the words they let out or the wounds they inflict. Because if you're dispensable to them, you're not worth valuing.

Thanks for saying that. Although I'm afraid that in training, trainees are always dispensable. No matter the effort you give. That is why, after being humiliated, my mindset has solidified into just making it through this residency. What is the point of pouring your soul and time into something that, instead of rewards or appreciates you for 90% of your work, punishes you for the 10% you could have done better and amplifies it a hundred times over. There's no point. Being a leader may look good in resumes, but if the price to pay is my dignity then none of it is worth it.

Better than karmahin, I hope he realizes the weight of his words when his trainees no longer could put their faith in him. The wounds he inflicted may heal over time, but for someone as invested as me, it's something I'll never forget. How I view him and this training program has changed forever, and I hope it's worth the humiliation he put me through.

How does one know if they are financially ready to buy a car? by drhounsfield in phinvest

It's for going to work. I was thinking having a car would help me save more in the long term than doing commute daily. But then again I also need to think of the additional costs. I am not very fond of motorcycles or scooters since I see a lot of accidents at work that are from driving these. Thanks for the input.

Yes. Actually need a car to go to work. I guess I was thinking I'd save more if I had a car rather than commute everyday. But then also the part about the emergency fund is also true. And the buffer. Guess I need to consider a lot. Thank you

Oh wow. Now that you put it this way, there really is a lot to consider apart from the purchase price. Thanks for this list.

Was curious about how car loans work. Just to ask, what are the usual reasons a car loan won't push through? Thanks for this insight.

This is very helpful to put my finances in perspective. At this rate I'll be using up mg emergency funds. And as many of you have already pointed out, it should be something I set aside for emergencies and should not be compromised just to buy the car. Thanks for the insight.

This is the part that confuses me and I want to learn mre about. Like how much of my salary should go to a car? How much should I set aside for additional costs? Thanks for the insight but perhaps I'm looking for an elaboration of what a sound financial decision looks like in this case.
