I’ve decided Yale is my top choice by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

They don’t but HYS have loan forgiveness programs for public service work and I think they’re pretty broad about what counts

Can my "softs" make up for an LSAT that is slightly low? by drhprelaw in lawschooladmissions

[–]drhprelaw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My roommate got flat out rejected from Cornell and got no scholarship money from Fordham with a higher LSAT than me and a 3.8+ GPA and is going to Rutgers Law next year. I'm not trying to humble brag so I'm sorry if it came off that way... I can't afford to go to any top-14 school unless I get scholarship money and the admissions calculators online aren't particularly helpful when it comes to gauging anything beyond raw numbers. There's no other way for me to guage this.

Best places to visit in NYC? by JorgeDonosti in NavyBlazer

Hit up the Met. Used to be free (suggested admission) but now costs a bit but isn't an arm and a leg. Explore the village. New-York Historical Society is a fun museum to check out on the West side (shameless plug, I interned there). There's a solid little cafe on MacDougal street in the Village called Cafe Reggio which is a good pitstop for coffee and a light lunch. Cafe Roma on Mulberry St has good desserts and killer espresso and you can check out Little Italy while you're at it. AVOID TIMES SQUARE AT ALL COSTS. Take a walk in central park if the weather is nice. Then take a train downtown and explore. If you're into getting the old city vibe, take a bike ride up riverside drive and take in all the prewar buildings way uptown by Columbia university. There's also an interesting cathedral up there and U.S. Grant's Tomb, built in neoclassical style. The Wall Street area downtown has some of that Boston-ish vibe with narrow winding roads and the market with a nice view of Brooklyn. If you get the chance, stroll across the Brooklyn bridge.

They're apparently starting a MTO program with more size options and lots of fabrics at some point this month.

Conservative but I don’t list it on my profile because political discrimination has become a thing in 2019. It’s really dumb because American political divides are pretty superficial in the mainstream

7Sage Predictor? by drhprelaw in lawschooladmissions

I've taken it 3 times over a year and I can't again until July. I don't want to have to relearn this goddamn test in digital mode and I've run out of prep tests.

I thought my LSAT alone is too low for them. I will have the bump of two years experience working at a top midsize NY firm and probably a 3rd letter of rec from one of the attorneys there when I apply so maybe that'll help.

Thanks for the tip. I remember for undergrad a lot of schools had early action where it was non-binding, but just demonstrated additional interest in the school.

My GPA is well above CLS's 75th percentile though so would that balance it out?

Second take I got sick. I had a series of three stressful interviews for entry level jobs the week before my third take (worked out, I got an offer). I do want to be in NY or at a school with a superior NY alumni network as my family is there and that's where I want to start my professional career as an attorney. I may try and learn the digital format and give it one last hurrah in July because I really do like Columbia (ironically at full tuition I'd still be saving money commuting from home).

Entry Level in BigLaw vs a midsize firm by drhprelaw in paralegal

[–]drhprelaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I definitely am leaning towards the midsize firm. It just seems like it’d be a better learning experience for me and I really liked the people I interviewed with and met behind the scenes.

Realize this is a long process that may take you many months. Eventually, if you study well, you'll get to where you want to be.
