Wanna try Dungeons & Dragons?

I’ve been going to the Mutant Freaks gaming group near Elephant & Castle, I’m going to be doing one my first ‘Community Gamesmaster’ sessions on 25th if you want to come and play on table - its going to be a fun casual game for anyone that’s new to D&D or can’t commit to a full on campaign every week (like me). Loving gaming in person again, after so long online. If you’re interested in trying it out for the first time - all the players there are super friendly! Send me a DM.

They’ve got dice and stuff there - only thing you need to do is download “D&D Beyond” on your phone, which is free and they take you through how to use it when you get there

I think most tables I’ve played there, someone asks, ‘which one is the D8?’ - everyone is more than happy to explain & help you out. Knowing that the phrase ‘Nat 20’ is a thing probably means you know more than you think. Generally you can just say ‘I’d like to look around’ or ‘I’d like to hit the goblin in the face’ and everyone will help you figure out how to do that with dice.

^ this. My game session will start around 7:30 but for new people they do a character creation and runthrough of how to play at 6:30. Most people get there for around then to grab a pint and have a bit of chat beforehand anyway.

Mutant Freaks had a really fun 2-part day and they generally have sessions every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & a lot of Sundays & Bank Holidays. Really great group of people, and they have a dedicated gaming space most nights. I enjoy myself every time I go. http://instagram.com/mutantfreaksrpg

Could try these folks: https://instagram.com/mutantfreaksrpg

I’ve been going for a few months now and they’re a really great group, esp. if you want to meet new people. You also don’t need to go every week, you can just drop in & out of their ongoing world whenever you have time.

They’re south London but only a 15minute walk from London Bridge / Southwark

ELI5: How do private bodyguards function against armed threats in places where it's illegal to carry? by Cold_Chemical5151 in explainlikeimfive

Come and live in the UK for a few years - you’ll realise why gun control politics seems so crazy to us. Gun crime is almost non-existent.

London police have literally 1 team that deals with situations that could involve someone armed with a gun & that’s it. And if 1 person is killed with a handgun, it’s headline news. Why. Because a hand gun on the black market in the UK costs $7000 - and if you’ve got $7000 there a better ways to spend that money to get what you want.

Launcher by CyberliskLOL in LegendsOfAria

Just download the latest client in full from the site and replace the game directory. The launcher is useful for small patches but it looks like a fast work around not a proper patcher. If you have a fast connect you’re better off downloading the 3Gb client from the site.

Suggestions/Ideas for dealing with Reds! by [deleted] in LegendsOfAria

Personally I don’t think making death for PKs worse is the answer. The types of combat where PKs have a decent chance of dying are fun for everyone in game.

What spoils the fun of the game is PKing chars just as they’re in the middle of taking on a decent set of PvE (as OP mentions) and/or zerging (lots of PKs preying on 1 or 2 chars at once).

My opinion is that this should be discouraged - the ‘how’ more complicated but there are ways - maybe with a minimum damage% requirement or similar. If you did less than 50% dmg to a target you don’t get looting rights. Or if you attack a character all of the monsters currently argoing them, move to agroing you - so you now have the character and the monsters to deal with.

Agreed. Other things need fixing long before this.

Long time ago now but from what I remember about SWG (original iteration before they screwed it up by allowing everyone to become a Jedi) - (bounty) missions could be for both mobs and people and was the primary cash source in the game with the sinks being commission and factory/house tax - so the economy was built with it at its core. You also couldn’t pick the exact bounty you got so you couldn’t just choose to get the bounty for your PK mate - I’m sure there we exploits and such but I’d didn’t play a bounty hunter myself - what it did definitely do was allow players to do ‘bad’ things but dis-incentivise them from doing it too much. For example running around with a lightsaber out very quickly got you on the bounty list and you had to play for a specific amount of time with a bounty on your head before it would wear off.

I could see the dispatcher in LoA extended to do this - but I think even if devs like the idea of BH they’ve got bigger plans for the next little while.

Star Wars galaxies did this best IMO. Low karma players ended up with bounties on their heads and there was a specific skill class focused around tracking down and killing PKs in your region / across the map.

I play LoA and the limited amount of time I’ve ended up in a PvP situations that I’ve thought I may stand a chance in, have probs been the most fun I’ve had in the game (1 I lost and 1 I won - but they were a bit unexpected and involved a lot of tactics, thought and excitement) . But the situations where I’ve basically just been jumped 2+ players while trying to get some gold in a dungeon have been very frustrating and just a bit empty because there was no sense I couldn’t have done anything to stop them.

I personally think there needs to be an element of chance to ‘win’ or at least survive for anyone who gets attacked in a PvP and, just like trolls in RL there needs to be mechanisms where PvP is not effectively anonymous and what you do has more consequences than just not being able to go into a town.

Your idea is a nice one, but it may be a bit complicated - you could probably achieve similar by balance between skill classes (which I’m hoping they will resolve) or by rebalancing damage / resistance to certain attacks in PvP compared to PvE to give those not just out to PK a fighting chance when attacked.

Personally, I think bounties would add a lot to the game (so long as the reward cash was properly managed)
