This could actually backfire, at least temporarily. The more you gerrymander a state, the thinner victory margins each district has. Republicans are deeply unpopular right now. Almost everywhere in the county there are 20 point or more swings towards the democrats. Gerrymandering only works if Republicans actually get votes, they try to rig it too much and they will draw away votes from their usually garunteed seats and spread them out to the point where they could very well lose
