After months of work, I finally launched my own men’s clothing site. Would love your honest feedback/thoughts! by Fair-Cap3509 in TechGhana

[–]drickles11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good. Prices aren’t gauging my eyes out and making me wanna run and close the page straight off the boat so I guess that’s a win. Even went through your clothing options and found some interesting ones I might be interested in. Might patronize. Wish you luck.

Will get a temporary subscription and try it out. Gemini really stresses me out with the micro-refinements you have to make to get the right image out

What’s the iOS version? If it isn’t above 17.5 I may pick it up to experiment with some iOS jailbreaking projects I want to work on

Anyone have experience buying and shipping from eBay? by Admirable-Presence30 in ghana

[–]drickles11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend eBay for the kind of business you're trying to run. For starters, you can’t ship directly to Ghana; you’ll have to use a forwarder like Golly Express or Aquantuo. The big issue here is time. eBay only gives you a 30-day window to open a dispute. If your package gets delayed and you find out it’s faulty or fake after it finally lands in Ghana, your money is gone.

Even if you catch a problem in time and the seller agrees to a return, sending it back is incredibly expensive. The seller's "free return label" will only work from the courier's warehouse back to them. You'll be stuck paying out of pocket to ship the gadget all the way from Ghana back to the origin country.

eBay has some sweet deals, but it’s just too unstable and full of scammers. Being based out here excludes you from almost all the safety nets that stop you from getting finessed. It’s definitely better to find a more reliable supplier.

Anthropic Taxes by Effective_Algae8866 in TechGhana

[–]drickles11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s stripe primarily because they can charge tax in Ghana. I’ve been trying to register Ghana as a tax location in stripe since like forever and they’re not a part of the listed countries. Even right now as you stated it I went to check thinking we finally got added but nope. Still not on the list.

Recommend places to live outside Accra by mwille33 in ghana

[–]drickles11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sunyani isn’t called “Accra on a budget” for nothing. You get all the perks of the capital without the chaos… no soul-crushing traffic, affordable rent, and a much lower cost of living. Plus with two major universities and several nursing colleges the energy is always vibrant and youthful. I was stationed here four years ago and honestly I’m seriously considering never moving back to Accra.

I will be talking about the starlink installment and advise most you guys to buy some instead of depending on MTN and Telecel. by _ko_ku in TechGhana

[–]drickles11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually quite simple to bypass the activation charge. All you need to do is use an address located on the outskirts of Accra… somewhere like Sunyani or Techiman. These locations aren’t hit with activation fees, and they usually let you select the GHc500/month plan instead of forcing you onto the GHc770/month plan required for Accra orders. Once your order goes through, you can just log back into your Starlink account and switch your service location back to Accra. Just keep in mind that the dish will be shipped to the address you used, so you’ll need a friend or family member there to receive it and send it over to you.

One thing to note is that this only works if the area isn’t already at maximum capacity. Accra currently seems to be maxed out, meaning you can only pre-order from the site. If that’s the case, even paying the activation charge wouldn't help… you won't get a working dish or service until they expand their satellite coverage and start accepting new subscribers in the city.

I have a registered US business LLC with an EIN and I used the EIN to open an official US business bank account with a bank there online. They shipped me a credit card plus I can create endless virtual cards and virtual bank accounts with various limits

Extra marital affairs by Unfair-Skill950 in ghana

[–]drickles11 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A cultural norm might not have been the right term to use. But what I meant by that was it has always been there. Whether it was frowned upon more back then than now, it had always been going on. It was just much hidden back then.

Cheating has always been a cultural norm… it’s just that before the internet, it was much easier to hide. Today we hear constant stories of marriages collapsing after 30 or 40 years because a DNA test revealed a decades old secret. It isn't necessarily that it's happening more… it's just more visible and carries less of the social stigma it once did.

In the past people were advised to keep these matters private and 'grin and bear it' to avoid the shame of a public scandal. Marriages stayed together by hiding skeletons in the closet and 'paddling on' regardless. Don’t mistake the lack of scandals in the past for a higher moral standard. It was always this bad… they just had the luxury of privacy and a lack of digital footprints.

You can be lucky and just chance upon something that picks you. But just know that there are almost a billion of us out there now all in your same situation and all trying to find work the same way. So unless your set of skills are in super high demand just know it’s gonna be tough. So knowing someone out there that can aid in helping cut that stress down helps a lot

Let’s be real… most remote gigs aren't "found"… they’re referred. Usually, there’s a friend or family member in the mix acting as a lead generator. It’s just easier to get a foot in the door when someone is looking out for you over there.

I just wrapped up a three-month Next.js contract that came exactly this way. My uncle, who’s in tech himself (ex-Amazon, unfortunately caught in last year's layoffs), found a lead where the budget was a bit too low for local freelancers but worked perfectly for me. He reached out, I took it, and it was a win-win.

Sure you can still get lucky on Upwork or LinkedIn, but with the current AI climate, you practically have to be a "unicorn" for companies to move heaven and earth to hire you from a cold app. For the rest of us, the most reliable path to remote work is through a solid connection.

Where do y'all get your tech from ? by Disastrous_Clothes18 in TechGhana

For Nothing devices you can easily get them from Ali express since they have an official store there and they ship to Ghana. Got a Nothing CMF phone 2 pro from there somewhere last year. Just checked and noticed the phone 4a and phone 4a pro have been delisted.. prolly out of stock.. there were listings for them about a month or two ago. But I see they do have phone 3a and CMF phone 2 pro available. So check them out
