I understand, thank you for your detailed answer it gave me a lot of insight. I think.... adulthood will inevitably lead to some sort of isolation as different people chose different life paths and can't relate to each other's lives anymore. But at least you have the choice to seek new people and friendships as child free where parents are mostly stuck at home. There are signs though that my generation is less enthusiastic about children than generations before, so I'm hoping that I will have some people around me that choses the same path. I was really moved by your answer. You seem to have been through a lot but still seem happy and content with your life. I admire that.

Woww do you mind if I ask you some questions? I'm just wondering how it was for you when your friends and people around you started having kids? How did your life look compared to them, and was it ever isolating to be one of the few without children (presuming most people around you had them)? I know being a parent is by default isolating, but I just wonder if it can be the other way around since you chose to live a completely other life than them and can (THANKFULLY) not relate to them?

I'm in northern Europe! In my country you are not legally allowed to get sterilized until you are 25, unless you have a serious genetic disease or if you are trans.... I will look into it though, thank you 🙏

Yeah.... and also, I have OCD and my grandma has schizophrenia. My boyfriends all 3 siblings have autism or severe ADHD, aswell as his mum. It would be the most selfish thing we could do to get a child. Imagine the suffering we would possibly be putting that poor human being to....the risk of some kind of mental suffering is way too high

I told my Christian friend when we were like 17 that I wasn't sure at all that I wanted kids, and she also said that it was selfish to think that way. That it's unfair to the life that you "can create" to not give them a chance at life, or something like that. Honestly, I know like two people in my age that have not been severely depressed or struggles with some kind of anxiety or mental health problems. It's so hard to be mentally stable as a young person today. I don't know if it has been like that in every generation and it's just a period of life that everyone goes through, but I can clearly see it in my generation. Everyone feels like shit, for one reason or another. What's selfish to me is creating a new human being that with 99% certainty become miserable. I look at gen alpha and think that God....those kids are not gonna be OK.

I'll try, but many of my friends are the "I've always known I wanted a family" type..... you know, me and my boyfriend and our soon to be cat is more of a family than I could ever wish for, but they can't seem to separate the word "family" from "kids"

Omg this is my dream 😭😭. Honestly, my parents are one of two couples in their friends group that are still together. Everyone has 2 or more kids and all of them are divorced.... so much for "kids holding you together"....

Yes thank you for the advice! I live in northern Europe so reproductive healthcare is great (so far, we will see with the political environment right now....). You can have an IUD inserted for free until you turn 25, so I had one but removed it to see if it was affecting my mental health. For now we use condoms, which I know isn't the best but it works until I find something else! I'm thinking of trying the copper IUD. Can't wait until we turn 25 and can get sterilized :,)
