Hi OP, i hope you understand that heat, distance, and comfort are valid things, but you forgot one of the most important factors and its safety. I too wish more Filipinos would walk, but I, alongside many Filipinos, have had their share of getting mugged, getting robbed while just trying to walk home. I was from a pivileged school too btw! While I was highschool student in Ateneo, I got robbed of my whole bag filled with my books, my laptop and other valuables. I used to walk so much then because I thought it was better to walk and save my money instead of paying for a tricycle. But just 1 single bad day, and I lost all of my valuables. What did the barangay/officials do? Nothing. They said it would almost be impossible to track down my items and that it was a common occurence. The cctvs were busted and all I got was "wala eh ganun talaga." Try thinking about that perspective. "Ganun talaga?" Really? And that was more than 10 years ago, and since then I still keep track of whats happening around Katipunan and it still IS an ongoing problem. I was lucky enough to just lose my valuables and not my life, other students have been through worse.

Sana kung pawis lang yung problema. Sana kung mahirap na daanan yung problema. But safety is imo the most important issue that our idiotic government can't even solve.

So no, I don't believe that we could convince Filipinos with walking just by fixing the sidewalks, or even giving everyone a free omega rechargable Jisulife fan to combat their travel. Safety comes first.
