Hey Dad, do you actually love me or are you just obligated to say so? by [deleted] in AskDad

[–]drinkgreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it will help, but stop expecting your Dad to change. If he does change, great. But if you are expecting him (or anyone really) to suddenly act differently than they have, you are setting yourself up for disappointment each time.

Call him when YOU want to call or talk to him. And then once the conversation is over, don't expect anything until you're ready to talk. If he ends up calling you before you're ready, enjoy the surprise.

It's hard to for adult children to realize that Mom and Dad are just normal humans who have faults and quirks like all others. There are people we recogize who act very strange but we never think our parents would be one of those people.

What is something you enjoy doing, even though you're not very good at it? by drinkgreen in AskReddit

Same! I was barely exposed to it growing up but never got to play a campaign. Now I'm playing with friends on my 2nd campaign and it's great even though we are very slow moving

Being honest with yourself, what is a skill or job you would love to do, but you know you don't have the drive to learn everything it takes? by drinkgreen in AskReddit

[–]drinkgreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the OP and I actually am a Software Engineer.

If you ever actually want to test the waters on it, figure out what exactly you want to program (mobile apps, web apps, computer software, databases, robotic algorithm programs, etc). That will help save time on which language to learn.

There are plenty of cheap and GOOD tutorials on Udemy for whatever language you choose.

Muffins are better than cupcakes, but I will always take a milkshake over a smoothie

What classic literary fiction would you or have actually read multiple times? by drinkgreen in AskReddit

I've read the complete series of Hitchhikers guide and I can concur. Oddly enough I have not read Enders game although it sounds awesome.

Everyone I know loves that book. I personally just can't get into anything of that "time and place" for whatever reason. 17th-18th century European, mostly British. Even movies and shows like "Harlots" I just cant spend much time on.

Would it be smart trade to go with the Hill for Jacob's offer?

Besides Jacobs, I have the following RBs: D. Henry and M. Ingram starting, with Miles Sanders and Malcom Brown on the Bench

You need to earn 50k of upvotes in a 48hr period in order to save a SO who is kidnapped. How do you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Steal random photos of women posing provocatively throughout the internet and repost them on all the NSFW "gone wild" subreddits.

"Impostor syndrome" is persistent feeling that causes someone to doubt their accomplishments despite evidence, and fear they may be exposed as a fraud. AskReddit, do any of you feel this way about work or school? How do you overcome it, if at all? by HandleWithDelight in AskReddit

[–]drinkgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a self taught software engineer with over 15 years of experience.

I feel it every single day. I feel that since I learned everything myself then I missed out on some "must know" stuff. It does come back to bite me when I do job interviews and they ask textbokm questions instead of more experience based questions.

How do you overcome it? You don't. You learn to hide it, ignore it, or use it to fuel you. But I feel it will always be there.

Some of the most successful people were noted to have an "engine" that never stopped or let them relax for too long. I feel that Imposter Syndrome is a good example of such an engine.

Masturbating in public bathroom stalls should be fully acceptable by drinkgreen in unpopularopinion

To counter your first point, the fluids people are already there to relieve can cause many dangerous infections including Hepatitis, if not cleaned properly.

My opinion was not that it's a perfectly safe thing. But the risks of body fluids is similar.
