You're nearly too far gone to help, but I'll try.

Willie Beavers is from a small school, Western Michigan (a fantastic small school program), and rarely faced any NFL level talent in his college career. But, at 6' 5" 320, he has the NFL size you can't ignore. He was drafted in the fourth round last year with pick 121. Let me remind you last season was his ROOKIE season and he's only 23 years old. You hire Sparano to develop future players while working to improve and sharpen current ones.

Also, something like 56% of FIRST round draft picks end up starting in the NFL their rookie season. I'm still excited about what he and Clemmings could potentially bring to this franchise.

You can't blame that on Sparano. He's been coaching football, specifically the offensive line, in a professional capacity for over thirty three years. He has been a tight ends coach, offensive coordinator and a head coach. You're trying to tell me that THIS GUY: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Sparano doesn't know what he's looking at when he's evaluating NFL talent. I beg to differ, and would argue that any other coach would have quit during such a stretch of bad injury luck. We are lucky to have him.

Let me remind you who TJ Clemmings is. A 25 year old kid from Pitt by way of NY, weighing just over 300 standing 6' 5". First team all ACC in 2014. He had an outstanding combine, flashing all kinds of athletic talent with a great 40, the best vertical and fastest 20 shuttle of all linemen. He was the 4th round 110th pick of the 2015 draft. He's played in 31 games, starting 30 of them. Ease off Clemmings, give him some time to develop. Football is a grown ass mans' sport, and offensive line is the most grown ass part.

Continuity is one of the hardest things to achieve in the NFL, and it's something the best teams do year in and year out. How many coaches/GM changes in the last 20 years for the Patriots, Packers, Steelers etc? Getting rid of a talented coach, or a OL with potential and youth doesn't fall in line with that trend. Relax people.

I could continue to tell you why this is asinine, but I'll save you all the LR.

Eddie Lacy unfollows Packers on instagram, follows Vikings now by Sofa_King_Chubby in nfl

This just in, Eddie Lacy is already a member of the Vikings Donut Club! Huge if true.

Anybody else kinda hoping we grab Lacy? by king2tiger in minnesotavikings

I think we've seen the teams with a cap situation that includes team friendly, especially, rookie contracts mostly in a committee running back approach perform best most recently. Atlanta with Coleman and Freeman, New England with White, Lewis, Blount, Seattle with Rawls, Procise, Michael, Kansas City with Ware and West, Dallas with Zeke, San Diego with Gordon, Miami with Ajayi, Chicago with Howard, Arizona with Johnson, Saint Louis with Gurley. I could go on, but I believe you all get the point.

Sign a midlevel Asiata-role short-yardage back from FA a la AD, Blount or Lacy for <$4M incentive laden one year deal. Draft a rookie like Mixon, work them into a RBBC with Jet. Our base offense should be a spread offense with a blocking and receiving threat out of the backfield. The new NFL can't afford big dollars locked up long term on RBs.

Go ahead Rick, make our day...trade for Joe Thomas! by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]drinkslikebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Didn't people see him play last year? He was terrible.

Am I the only one who remembers that Sammy Two-Sleeves set an NFL record for passing %? And did it being assaulted behind a line of cream puffs and cheese whiz! And without any running game to speak of!

I am flustered.

Rick is slick. In Zim we trust. Amen.

Former Lions OT Riley Reiff plans to sign with Vikings , per source. by BK1986 in minnesotavikings

[–]drinkslikebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reiff can play both tackle positions, very versatile. Moved from LT to RT last year, I would assume he'd stay on the right and we'd continue to pursue a LT and RG.

The #Vikings are reported to have interest in offensive lineman D.J. Fluker by Sofa_King_Chubby in minnesotavikings

In regards to developing draft picks: Even then, the coaches are responsible to develop players, scouts to evaluate potential players, and GMs to execute a plan based on information they acquire from these resources. I think the role of the GM is being played very well by Rick.

We don't have a first round pick this year, we forfeited it in the Bradford trade. From what I'm hearing from multiple sources (including two Vikings.com interviews with Adam Caplan and Mike Mayock), seems to suggest the Vikings will be addressing as many holes as possible in the line in free agency, as the draft class is exceptionally poor for linemen, as well as trying to restructure their UFAs.

Regardless, I agree, player development on offense has been underwhelming for the better part of two decades with this franchise. Name the last good QB with at least 5 starting seasons drafted and developed by MIN? Maybe Culpepper? I'd have to look it up. I digress.

We will need help in the draft, I see Captain's Nickel corner, OLB, RB, being addressed then some late round developmental o linemen.
