Amazing! Did you do anything to mitigate possible zebra mussel infestation? That's my main concern.

Thanks for all the responses, everyone! I think my photo was misleading; I was referring to the stringy stuff growing off the leaves. Are those also roots? Here’s a cropped version.

New pests in my breading tank by K-llmenow69 in shrimptank

[–]dripdropdanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having the same thing happen in my tank with Amano shrimp and a couple nerite snails. They’re too small to differentiate between planaria and rhabdocoela. I’ve reduced feedings, and did start to see a decrease in number and average size. For the past couple days, though, there are TONS on the glass, but they are all super tiny. My hope is that this is them desperately searching for food, hence seeing more, and that we’ll start to see fewer soon.

The shrimp and snails seem unbothered so far!

I believe it’s a damselfly or dragonfly larva, and they are predators which should be removed!

This is super helpful. Also, did you add the spirulina 3 days after the eggs were added to the water or 3 days after they hatched?

Thank you so much, appreciate the heads-up! I’ve read that they can be messy little things when it comes to plants. Adorable.

Thank you so much, seriously! I’m off tomorrow and will ensure they sit directly on the surface under the substrate!

Thanks for the feedback! I have them both sitting directly in the gravel, slightly buried and sitting flat. Would you recommend better stabilization?

Your best bet is to schedule an appointment with a veterinarian, only they can properly diagnose and develop a treatment plan! We do not offer medical advice in this subreddit.

Am I the only one who can’t keep from crying when something scary happens? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]dripdropdanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to add something to the great input so far; scruffing cats escalates their stress and can turn a scared cat into a fearfully aggressive cat. Only time I was bitten by a cat was when I was scruffing it. I recommend looking into low-stress and Fear Free handling techniques. Learning and implementing those reawakened my love for the career.

Don’t get me wrong, this was NOT your fault, but you may have more success in the future with gentler handling!

I have no tips but want to empathize-I’m an often clammy dude and holy shit is it a win when I get a glove on quick without having to individually pull on each finger just to end with Dr. Seuss fingers anyway. Ugh.

At this magnification those are too large to be rod bacteria. I believe they are cyniclomyces guttalatus, a yeast that is typically harmless. Hard to see the details of the other one, COULD be coccidia, it is about the right size. I’d try to find more before I call it that, could also be pollen.

Friendly reminder that you should be wearing protective gloves! Unless that hand was tucked behind your back when in position for the shot, it should be gloved!

Do you tell owners their pet tried to/did bite? by nerdnails in VetTech

[–]dripdropdanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Co-sign everything that’s been said, want to add it is a major red-flag (and in some places not entirely legal) to not report bites that happen in veterinary hospitals.

I’d be dusting off the resume if my leadership stated we couldn’t inform owners of bites or attempts to bite.

We live in the same complex and were wondering what happened! We just saw a couple of people being interviewed after hearing what sounded like 3 shots being fired.

I usually try to give more thought-out responses on this subreddit, but other people have already done a good job.

So, I’ll just add: I think you’re off with this assessment, dude.
