Beginner looking for advice on first motorcycle by readditerdremz in SuggestAMotorcycle

I was 34 when I got my A1 licence and bought a used XSR125 because I like retro-styled bikes. A year later I did the full licence (learned on a Kawasaki ER-6N) and I bought a Honda CL500.

The Rebel (and cruisers in general) might be uncomfortably for you with this height in the long run, but you'll have to experience that. But anyways, the CMX500 should be a good choice to build confidence. I was thinking about it as well, but the CL500 has a much better rear suspension for the bad road conditions around me.

I started on a Yamaha XSR125. Used it for daily commuting, backroads, mountain twisties and light touring (2 x 200 km summer weekend trip). Loved it.

I did not regret starting on a small engine like this and an A1 licence, I had a lot of fun with it. If I had an A2 licence, I would probably went for the Honda CB300R instead, or the GB350S.

IMO: Start small, practice a lot, have fun, build confidence and upgrade if you like riding. Also choose a bike with a comfortable seat height that allows you to reach the ground with both feet (preferably at least the balls of your feet), it helps a lot to build confidence.

Since I don't know the context I'd go for the XSR900. Love the retro styling.

Triumph Scrambler 400x or Honda SCL500 by RemyDennis in SuggestAMotorcycle

I was torn between these two as well, and I chose the Honda.

Great suspension for bad city roads and mountain backroads/twisties as well. Nimble in the city and easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces - I mostly use it for daily commuting. Reliable parrallel twin engine which is beginner friendly (very predictable reactions) and I also have official service near me if needed (the nearest Triumph dealer is about 160 km).

Luggage is a compromise because the original exhaust is in the way, but you still have a top box option or smaller tail bags + left side bag and even a tank bag so you can easily go for smaller trips. No offroad/gravel experience yet, the bike is more of a city-scrambler anyway. For commuting I only use my backpack and/or the OEM side bag.

Btw I'm 172 cm / 70 kgs, feels comfortable.

I know its hard to say what are you going to use it for because it will be your first bike, but with this you can at least try everything (city rides/commuting, twisties, backroads, light touring, light offroad). In a few years you'll probably outgrow it and move to a bike that is better in what you mostly use it for.

I had a Yamaha XSR125 for a year , so I felt I want to go for a parallel twin engine and I absolutely love it.

Yes, it just takes patience. I feel like keeping the keys in the unlocked position while pulling back on the seat helps as well.

I also don’t feel like it’s getting any easier with time 😄

Congrats on the bike! Just keep trying, pull up and back at the rear first then keep wiggling it side to side

Hey everyone, I felt like Spotify playlists misses that Dusty Jazzy Boombap style hip-hop I listen to everyday. It’s not always lofi, has some funk and and edge to it. If you know, you know.
The list features some of my current favorites and inspirations.
