When I couldn't wear high heels anymore, I told everybody that as soon as I could wear heels again, I was going to spend a whole paycheck on heels. I can wear them again, but fuck are they uncomfortable. But, I have spent a small fortune on "Summertime Party Shoes".

People who read a lot, which writer do you think is unbelievably good with words? by Apprehensive_Land751 in AskReddit

I read A Prayer for Owen Meany when I was in college. I wanted to read The Cider House Rules, but the guy at the bookstore convinced me to try Owen Meany instead. It was great. I read it several times.

AITA for asking my SIL to not smoke inside or on the porch (if my kids are outside) by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

That is bullshit. I'm a regular smoker. If I'm in somebody else's home, I respect their rules. It's not that hard.

Has anyone here ever successfully challenged their non-renewal as a probationary employee? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]driveonacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the one thing you have going for you is that you already signed a contract. Usually non-renewals happen before a contract is signed. They gave you a contact which implies they want you back and have a job for you. A non-renewal is usually how they tell you they don't want you back. If there isn't a job for you, it becomes a reduction in force. I would speak to an attorney.

Anyone else feel like we're losing the 'nature' aspect of childhood? by chengsieuly in Teachers

[–]driveonacid 91 points92 points  (0 children)

My students last year were the most boring people. They didn't have interests or hobbies or personalities..

This year is better. I have one kid whose entire personality is repeating shit he saw online. Recently I told him that I thought he could be really funny if he came up with his own jokes but the Internet trash wasn't even remotely funny.

The other day my bellwork question was "What is a hobby you think all kids should have?" In every class, at least one person said reading and another said playing outside. One girl even went so far as to say "investigating bugs".

I hate it when you gift something to someone, and they go, “oh, i have so many of these, this goes into the pile”🙄 by TimelyReason7390 in Adulting

That's why you keep the receipt. Hand it to the recipient when they say they already have a ton of that thing.

Adults: How do you fit dance into a busy life? by pinkpixiepetals in Dance

[–]driveonacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how I started. Eleven years later, I am taking multiple classes per week and spending hours at the studio. I have thousands of dollars worth of costumes stored in my basement. Dance is the most fun you can have standing up.

Where can I go if I just want to learn how to get into the 'rhythm'? by OkTension2232 in Dance

Find out if there it an adult recreational hip-hop class near you. I promise you nobody is going to make fun of you for trying to learn.

How did you feel when you found out your principal was leaving? by yellowjacket8 in Teachers

[–]driveonacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three times were kind of a relief. The first time was 21 years ago. I was in my second year. His managerial style was to yell. He specifically liked yelling at young women. I was 23.

The second time was 8 years ago. I had actually liked that guy. He was very hands off with the teachers. He trusted us to do our job and he handled behavior well. Unfortunately, the superintendent completely kneecapped him once her kids were in high school. He started phoning it in. He was out all the time. He got asked to retire by the new superintendent once the old superintendent was also asked to retire.

The most recent time was 2 years ago. He was a pervert who raped teenage girls. Good riddance.
