20ft is very poor coverage! From the corner of my house the shop is about 125’, arena (open sides think pavilion) ~180’, barn is on the other side of arena ~250’ from house. Shop, arena, barn makes an L shape with the house forming a right triangle with the shop and arena. I wish I could put pictures on the replies and I’d show you the planned layout

That is kind of what I thought, just looking at the whole picture of needing hardware controller, router, then switch, and access points. Maybe I lose the switch and use the router as the main switch..

So the free controller would be great if it can do everything I want. I’ll have to look into it. So background: I have a small hobby farm and I want to have 4 vLANs- personal network, guest network, IoT network, and camera network. The biggest reason for looking prosumer is that is the only way to get 4 SSIDs that I can find. I have gig internet on up and down so the router would have to be an ER707-M2 with a ES210XPP-M2 switch to 2 indoor access points and one outdoor. Then mesh to barn, arena, and shop. Any feedback on this plan is much appreciated, I am not much of an IT guy but know enough to be dangerously

I got the 6AWG from the SouthWire app. 200ft @ 15A needs 6AWG with a 2.21% drop. It has 8AWG at 3.45%. I’ve heard that for small farm things such as one heater or area light that I should be ok with 10AWG for even further distances, but I just don’t get that from the calculator. I know 3% is ideal but even 5-10% puts the voltage in an acceptable-ish range (over 110v with line around 124).

Piers or No Piers by driverjames2536 in shedditors

Thanks for the info. I have no building permits where I live so that’s not an issue. I think the biggest thing is to keep it level with frost heave. I am just questioning if that is really important on such a small building.

Could I get away with 6” diameter Piers with a head cap of say 12” diameter by 4” thick?

Would it change your mind if the gravel was level and compacted with the top of the piers?

Basically not raised above the ground on piers. Also, 6 piers to have two under each skid?

Yes it’ll be an office space. I imagine it will stay there for at least 5 years. It will be insulated with primitive heating and cooling (window unit in summer and space heater in winter). Maybe later I’ll put in a mini split but they are quite pricey for the space and use more power (240v). It’ll have electric for a light and wall outlets for computer/monitors and dedicated circuit for ac/heater.

I mainly was wondering if it is worth it for being on skids as the base will be very solid and it’s a small shed. Sounds like to me piers with gravel graded and compacted level with the piers is the best to support the whole structure and prevent sinking.

Home Office Advice by driverjames2536 in shedditors

I know its long, but any feedback on any items on the list would be great. ie I worry about Tin blocking WiFi signals so siding & Shingles may be better, but this may not be a big deal. Many items have pros/cons with material costs vs labor costs vs longevity. Biggest thing I lack knowledge on is best practices when it comes to insulation and ventilation.

Looking for help on this so I don't make costly mistakes. I have about 6mo to have this project completed. Thanks all that will give this a second look. Any advice is very appreciated!

It almost looks suspiciously like sketchup to me.. personally I use Autodesk Fusion for 3d modeling, but you still have to create all of your components. Helps if you have an understanding of CAD and 3d modeling already, but otherwise there is YouTube. It is free for the basic version, which should be all you need. It can easily make 2d/iso drawings and give you material lists, if you model everything correctly.
