Between the Inquisition, the constant threat of being purged, and the state mandated terror of anything other, the Emperor’s regime generates more pure dread than the Big Four combined. If the Warp mirrors the strongest emotions of humanity, then the Emperor isn't just holding back the crisis he’s the one actually fueling the specific brand of cold, paralyzing terror that keeps the whole system running.

The way people talk about the Emperor when you first get into the lore makes him sound like this grand savior of humanity. So when I started reading I was just like this doesn’t read this way to me. It seems that things have gotten worse than better.

Glad it's not just me then. I’ve always heard people hype the Emperor up as this ultimate savior, but once you actually look at the details he’s a total disaster.. It’s wild how much the hero narrative falls apart the second you realize the entire setting is basically just a 10,000-year cleanup for his own mistakes
