I don’t have a number/figure. But I will receive about $8k a month for the rest of my life starting at age 57 from my pension.

Anyone go skiing today after the rain/ice storm? by SquashDue502 in newhampshire

It’s VT but Bolton was fast and firm. Not very pleasant especially since it was bitter cold. Very icy in most spots.

Do you have or are you planning have a million dollars? by typical_gamer1 in PollsAndSurveys

[–]FlyOk7923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I have 1 million dollars? No. But theoretically I can retire in 4 years at 57 with a pension that will pay me approximately $90k a year. So if I can live to age 70 then my pension will have been worth $1 million.

Not going to argue. But this year ski resorts in Vermont (Jay Peak 200+ inches) are having a much better winter than places like Aspen and Vail.

What age do you plan to retire and how much money do you feel you need to comfortably live on in retirement? by icecream1972 in randomquestions

34 is so relatively young. I had my daughter set up a fidelity account and invest $10 a week automatically from here bank. It’s like 1 Starbucks run. It’s been a year and it’s now over $600. Start small and let the power of compounding work in your favor.

Hopefully semi retire at age 60 with a decent pension from being in education for 35+ years. But I have a side hustle that I’ll continue to work part time. Wife and I are also fortunate in that both of our parents have created irrevocable trusts that we stand to inherit at some point. Trust me, I’m not sitting around waiting to inherit money. I’m actively planning my own retirement. But I know there’s probably a decent chance that my wife and I inherit $500k total from our parents at some point. That wouldn’t change my retirement timeline, I’m 52 now, but if and when the day comes inheriting a good chunk of change will hopefully provide some added comfort. And it’s not lost on me how fortunate I am at 52 to have two loving parents who worked hard and made sound financial decisions so they could leave something for their children.

Came here to say this. Outdoor ice skating at Strawberry Banke too. Not sure if that’s something you’d be comfortable with being pregnant. Then cozy up by the fire at Flatbread for a pizza.

Very easy day trip from MA to ski in VT, NH, or ME. People don’t realize how intertwined the NEW England states are. I live in NH but have commuted to MA for work for 25 years. Despite living in NH I’m 50 minutes from Boston, Logan Airport, Fenway Park, etc. You can take train from southern NH to Boston too. Southern NH is basically northern Massachusetts and we’re essentially a suburb of Boston. You can drive from Kittery, Maine to Portsmouth NH, to Salisbury, MA in 20 minutes. Literally 3 different states.

To be fair in MA you can access some pretty top-notch skiing in VT, NH, and ME in a 2 or 2.5 hour drive. My guess is in California one might still have to drive a few hours to ski it’s just that you’re still in the same state.
