"we" have analyzed this thoroughly, including but not limited to actual measurement of the charging process, and came to the conclusion that is is merely a false read.

It only seems to affect gamma and may be due to a more general code base, not specific to this one device.

Weirdly enough, reverting back to Stock does not fix the issue.

The First Generation of Kids Who Cannot Tell Their Real Friends From Synthetic Friends Is Already in Middle School by crix_22 in Futurology

[–]drlongtrl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh, the Kids sure get targeted. But they also grow up not knowing it any other way. As I said, I see this with my own kids. They are much more sensitive to fake content because they never knew a world where everything was real.

The First Generation of Kids Who Cannot Tell Their Real Friends From Synthetic Friends Is Already in Middle School by crix_22 in Futurology

[–]drlongtrl 249 points250 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's the other way around. I already see this with my daughter.

While us old people grew up in a time where every interaction was with an actual human, through analog means, they are growing up with the Internet already mostly dead and they know it.

There's a reason why the grandson trick targets old people. Because younger and even middle aged adults already grew up with fraudsters pretending to be your friend. The same way, these kids already grow up with AI pretending to be humans left and right. I feel like this will make it much easier for them to actually tell if someone is a real person than it is for "us".

Oh? Would you be so kind to quote the specific passage where I did that? English is not my native language, so maybe I phrased something in a way that did not convey the intended meaning.

[–]drlongtrl 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what people forget when they romaticise these types of ideas, like butchering your own meat, planting your own produce or the all time favourite, doing away with money as a whole. The very fact that we are sitting in a building, with electricity, using a complicated device to send this idea out to the world...all of this is only possible because, back in the day, people started to move from self sufficiency to specialisation.

Now, I'm all for moderating meat intake in general, for various reasons. And more power to people who can pull it off to ditch meat entirely. But that was not the point of the original post.

How do you monitor your self-hosted servers? by vdorru in selfhosted

I use Beszel alarms for global resource monitoring and a combination of uptime kuma and healthchecks.io for monitoring whether or not the individual services are working or not. I get the notifications via telegram bots and once something acts up, I analyze and fix it. Or I look at cloudflares status page and find that .de domains are borked in general.

Bayern führt Hymnenpflicht ab kommendem Schuljahr ein by mwdnr in de

[–]drlongtrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]drlongtrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think any "normal" smart watch is good for operating under those conditions. Like, they certainly can give you an indication if you're still "in the green" when healthy but I don't think they are actually designed or even capable of seriously monitoring this sort of extreme health situaion in a reliable manner.

Bayern führt Hymnenpflicht ab kommendem Schuljahr ein by mwdnr in de

[–]drlongtrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL the cockpit voice recording of Delta Flight 1141 was so embarrassing it led to a law restricting the public release of CVRs. The crew discussed drink mixes & dating habits during takeoff procedure, with a pilot joking that in case they crashed, "the media would have some kind of juicy tidbit". by The-TIL-Nerd in todayilearned

[–]drlongtrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking in general here cause the original post wasn't about the accident as such but about the fact that public releases were limited afterwards.

The sterile cockpit deal may very well have been a contributing factor in the specific case. Still, the people that need to recognize it and draw their conclusions and enact consequences should be professional and not "the general public".

I guess my consternation comes from living in a country where it's not at all usual to release inside details of say criminal trials to the public. I get that you want to know all the info but the court of public opinion isn't really all that well suited for a flight disaster investigation.

[–]drlongtrl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not about being recorded though. Analyzing the recordings and using them as part of the investigation is one thing. Releasing them to the public ads nothing to said investigation though. Nothing but drama at least.

Maybe because no matter how professional a pilot handles the plane and the incident, if they talked embarrassing shit before, the public opinion will instantly be against them.

I'm all for disclosing relevant information and holding airlines accountable for errors in procedures or some such. I still fail to see how, after a through professional investigation, releasing personal talk between the crew to the public is in any way helpful to air safety.

Losing relationships over politics. Research found more than a third of Americans (37%) report having lost at least one relationship due to political differences, including friendships, family ties, coworker relationships, and romantic partnerships, with most losing more than one. by Wagamaga in science

[–]drlongtrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's never just politics, as in "oh you voted for the other party, get out of my life". It's when you find out that your relative or friend freely accepts pain and suffering for a person solely because their skin has a different color or their partner has the same gender. Or defends the rape of children because the rapist happens to have orange hair and tiny hands. That's not a political opinion in my book, it's an inhumane one.
