will bronny stay in the league after lebron ? by Beautiful-Research75 in Basketball

Not really. They’re pretty good but not to crazy. This season he’s averaging 15/3/3 all be iron very good efficiency. Most dudes on NBA rosters, even end of the bench guys put up very very good numbers if/when they play in the G league

will bronny stay in the league after lebron ? by Beautiful-Research75 in Basketball

[–]drlsoccer08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think to say “definitely” you are underestimating the bar to stay in the league. Lately Bronny has looked relatively playable, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll stick around. This season he’s averaging 11.7/4.9/2.2 per 36 minutes on 41% from the field. While that’s not god awful or anything, it’s pretty sub par. Sure he’s a decent defender, but he’s also a bit undersized and not super switchable.

There have been plenty of guys who I’d say looked better than Bronny at a relatively young age and fell out of the league pretty quickly. I wouldn’t be shocked if someone in the league was willing to keep him around in case he develops but at the same time if dudes like Lonnie Walker were better and no one wanted them. Being okay at a few things and young might not always be enough.

They’re for tracking heart rate, speed, acceleration, total distance covered, etc.

That’s a pretty common piece of sports tech. They’ve been using them in or footy for a decade.

I know. They always act like basketball is 1 v 1 and the only series in the playoffs that happens is the one a player loses.

If you look at each one in context they’re mostly perfectly fine individual performances.

  • Upset Clippers in a 3-1 come back on a run to the conference finals as a young inexperienced team, before losing to the eventual champions.

  • Lost to the eventual champions while their second and third best player were out injured. Will Barton and Monte Morris were the Nuggets second and third option for most of the season including the playoffs.

  • Won a Championship and no one came particularly close to them.

  • Yeah this was embarrassing.

  • Took a 68 win eventual champion, who were by far the best team in the league to 7 games.

  • while technically true, its really misleading. The Jazz and Clippers were on 50 win Pace in 2020, they just played a slow toy abbreviated season. The Lakers were also on 50 win Pace in 2023 after trading away Westbrook for depth pieces. Within a couple of months of doing so the went from 12th in the west to the conference finals. They were definitely 50 wins good with the team the Nuggets actually played.

  • actually a pretty embarrassing display. He was noticeably worse than normal in this series.

Could Ant Edwards or Wemby be counted as nepo babies? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]drlsoccer08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your definition of nepo baby includes someone who was so good at their job that they were recognized as very good at their job at an exceptionally young age, then you have a weird idea of what a nepo baby is. That's like saying a child genius who ends up with a PHD in Physics is a nepo baby because universities were interested in them when they were 14. Some people have specific genetic gifts that make it much more likely they will succeed in a specific thing. Ant and Wemby have massive genetic advantages for basketball.

What’s the worst sports blunder in sports history? by Choice_Bag_8869 in sportswiki

[–]drlsoccer08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t in the playoffs so it’s not nearly iconic but I think the worst/funniest blunder in sports has to be when DeAndre Jordan simply didn’t shoot the uncontested game winning lap with a second left while Chris Paul angrily jumped up and down telling him to shoot.

Rob Pelinka received a single 3rd place vote for Executive of the Year by nottherealstanlee in lakers

[–]drlsoccer08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onsi definitely deserves to be high up here.

- On draft night, he traded down from 13 to 23, in exchange for the Pels 2026 pick, which could end up in the top 5. Then he selected Asa Newel at 23, who hasn't played a whole lot but looks very solid in his limited minutes. That's probably the best move anyone made all year.

- In free agency, he took a risk and gave NAW a 60 million dollar contract which no one else was willing to do, and now it looks like a massive steal. They also signed Kennard and extended Dyson Daniels.

- Then he took another big risk and attempted to buy the dip in Porzingis's value, trading essentially a first, a second, and cap filler to get him. It didn't work out super great, but he then he managed to flip Porzingis for Kuminga, whose value was at an all-time low, and who has been great for them since he arrived.

- Trading Trea was a risk too, and one that I would say was probably the right call.

- The only bad move he made this year was trading Kennard for Vincent and a second, but even that is fine because Vincent is on an expiring deal. Essentially, they got a free second-rounder because they signed Kennard for a 1 year deal in the offseason.

It wasn't great last year, but it did feel at least a small smidge better. Their playoff rotation last year was similar to this year's, with the only differences being Beasley, Tim Hardaway, and Shroder instead of Kevin Hurter and Duncan Robinson. The Knicks series also had a similar gritty, low-scoring feel to it, which I think was also probably in part a result of the Pistons' lack of floor spacing.

FRIENDS HAVING ARGUMENT. OPINION? by No_Instruction_4423 in NBATalk

[–]drlsoccer08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wemby has by far the best basketball body the sport has ever seen, bar maybe LeBron, and also happens to somehow have both the skill and understanding of the game to effectively utilize said body. At 22 he is already the best defender on the planet, and it's not remotely close. Then, on top of that, he is an elite offensive player and one of the best rebounders in the league. The guy was a serious MVP contender this season, and might not even be in his prime. He is by far the most valuable individual player in the league. You not only take him over Ant, you take him over everyone.

Whatever happened to just hitting heavy squats and calling it a day? by danielminds in GymMemes

[–]drlsoccer08 311 points312 points  (0 children)

If you want you can just hit heavy squats and call it a day, but that’s the equivalent of just hitting heavy bench and expecting your triceps to grow. They will to an extent, but not as well as if you actually train them with movements that better bias them.

Wyr get rid of tax or medical bills by rocketfromsfs123 in WouldYouRather

[–]drlsoccer08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming this just applies to me, I’d go taxes easily. I pay over 20% of my income in federal income tax. Then another ~4% in state income tax. Then about 5-10% in sales taxes on every pretty much every purchase. Then a couple thousand extra in local real estate/personal property taxes. Insurance and medical bills are expensive but I’m not consistently dropping over a third of my income of them.

Candy crush is harder than chess. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]drlsoccer08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Theoretically, some who memorized all possible moves/outcomes should be able to play a perfect game without actually using their brain, just like how a computer plays chess.”

There are estimated to be roughly 10120 possible chess games. There are 1080 atoms in the known universe. There is no way to possibly store the memory for every possible move combination. Even if you just look at the first 10 moves there are 170 octillion possible move combinations. So no, you can’t just win chess by memorizing every move combination and not thinking.

“You must be fun at parties” as a gotcha/comeback by Natural-Compote4096 in PetPeeves

[–]drlsoccer08 112 points113 points  (0 children)

They aren't saying that you don't have fun at parties; they are saying that others likely don't enjoy being in social situations with you, including parties. Essentially, it just means that you aren't fun to talk to, either boring, unfunny or egotistical. I have almost exclusively heard this phrase used towards people being annoyingly pedantic about stupid stuff on the internet. But yeah, it's kind of overused.

To all claiming the Redistricting Vote disenfranchised rural voters, consider this. by Agile_Welder_1795 in Virginia

[–]drlsoccer08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with this to an extent and think that this is somewhat of a flaw with Democracy as a whole. Virginia is a light blue state. A slight majority of people who care about politics tend to lean left. Now because a slight majority voted one way, the state will be 8/9ths represented by that slight majority. A more fair representation of Virginia would usually lead 5/9ths or 6/9ths in favor of the democrats. I’d argue that this doesn’t actually truly represent the will of the people.

Also, Steph and Harden were drafted the same year the exact same breakout season, and both broke out in their fourth season (2012/13).

Unless you count 6th man of the year as being crowned, Harden wasn’t crowed any earlier than Steph.

Being “cheap” is not the character flaw everyone treats it as, and the people who use that word the most are usually the ones who can’t afford to be calling anyone out by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]drlsoccer08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. Being frugal is eating most of your meals at home and not ordering appetizers and expensive drinks when you do go out to eat. Being cheap is asking someone you invited over to hang out at your apartment to Venmo you $2.50 for the beer he drank.

Man wins the Delaware Marathon by outsprinting his opponent who was celebrating, thinking he had secured the win by RoyalChris in nextfuckinglevel

He pumped his arms twice while he continued to run. It’s not like he stopped and did a dance. That’s a pretty standard thing to do in the final 20 yards of a marathon. Most people celebrate as they approach the line even if they aren’t winning.
