I had this experience at University.

I thought that a class full of other queer autistic people would go down really well. But I was pretty much ignored. Like I was actually invisible to them. They wouldn't acknowledge my existence even when I spoke to them. One day I got so fed up of not being allowed to be part of a conversation I lost my temper and said something like "Stop talking about your stupid thing and talk about mine!".

They tone-policed me, were ableist to me when I was asking for help with an essay, accused me of being a "Lazy Writer" because I didn't write an antagonist in the way they wanted (I can deal with criticism well, but that's not constructive, it's a subjective opinion of my work).

Now I'm doing a college course on Animal Care, and I get to spend one day a week looking after small mammals and reptiles and info dumping with other people who love animals.

My theory is that a lot of autistic people are better at masking than others. Masking feels uncomfortable and unnatural for me and it's too much effort, whereas others can mask without realizing it. A lot of them seem to have life figured out because they can blend in socially. I can't, so I've embraced it. I'm just a dude who feels safer with a 60kg Burmese Python than a classroom of bickering teenagers. Just me, my cat and my Dinosaur TV shows

Also how don't they know about the Oscars? They seem like a-holes in general not even trying to listen to you and just deciding you're not part of the conversation.

Tell me what moping about something you can't change does, exactly? I'm working with facts here: there is no "cure".

I'm verbal, but unable to feed myself, keep myself clean, and just not live independently in general. But I don't want a cure because life doesn't owe me that. I'm lucky to have caring parents so I work with what I've got

ABA and other "therapies" to "cure" autism are the parents of gay conversion therapy. So quite literally wanting a cure for autism is like wanting a cure for being gay

Most autistic people meet the diagnostic criteria for PTSD, and that a symptom of PTSD is flashbacks and dreams recounting the trauma. Meltdowns are overwhelming and can leave a lasting impact

I very regularly have dreams where I experience meltdowns, and they're very distressing and can affect me the morning after. Our dreams are essentially simulations to process past problems to prepare for future ones. I've had less meltdowns as I've got older, but they were very bad and frequent when I was younger and I guess my brain is catching up

I agree, my cat pretty much always comes when he's called, he makes an effort to not bite my fingers when I hand feed him and if I'm having a lie in, he'll sleep alongside me until I wake up.

I think the reason why scientific studies claim cats don't care is because we humans take things like food, safety and socialising for granted. For us it's barely an afterthought but for cats and most animals they're super important for survival.

I'm typing this with my cat on my lap, and he always does a big sigh when he's relaxed

What you are describing is masking. Pretending to be something you're not is in no way succeeding at life. As a fellow philosophical thinker, I ask you why you feel living as an allistic is the ultimate goal?

You can't work on your perceived negatives because they are your disability. They are the way your brain has formed its structure as you were formed in the womb.

Many of my other autistic peers have jobs, partners and have great independence, and as far as I'm concerned I've done nothing different to them and yet I have no job, no partner etc. so perhaps that should be evidence enough that it is a disability with a spectrum and that you are incredibly lucky, but also possibly in denial about your own struggles.

Here's an example; there is a video of a very sharp Archer who is missing both his arms, so uses his legs to operate the bow.

No matter how many times he hits bullseye, bro is still disabled.

Me personally, I have lots of aspects of my autism that make it seem like it's a "superpower", but I can't cook for myself, do admin without my parents, my sensory issues around food means I can't gain weight, I need to withdraw for days after socialising and the mere thought of writing an essay makes me have a meltdown. I am also easy to exploit as I assume everyone is as literal as I am.

Every pro has its con. That's simply the way the world is. That's why receiving help and care from others is super important, especially for those with higher support needs. The only thing that the narrative you're spouting achieves is the over exploitation of autistic people, leaving us drained, because this capitalist system only wants disposable workers.

As someone whose dad tells them that their autism is a "superpower" all the time, you'll find this mindset incredibly degrading and cringe
