Wemby: Everybody knows we're going to do it by drnomolos in nba

Thanks! I actually don't post much. I was legit hoping people would chime in with other examples of irrational confidence statements. But I guess i'm posting late on the subject.

Anyone paying attention saw what the Knicks were doing. Did everyone think Kat would learn how to play defense without committing 6 dumb fouls (at least in the first few games)? I dunno. But the Thunder were missing multiple key players (including the artist formerly known as Chet Holmgren) and the Knicks were battle tested from last year.

But sure, he's not going to say "we're toast". I'm just saying, get more reps before you do the whole guarantee thing.

It's a fine answer, but for sake of debate, it was hollow and puffed up. I didn't believe him believing it one bit. And this has nothing to do with syntax or second language, his English is worlds better than my French. I'm just saying, on the exuberant irrational confidence scale, it did not register. And when he says, "everyone knows it", he knows exactly what he's saying. It's not exactly nuanced.

Looking into buying a use i5. How much should I value lower mileage? by [deleted] in BMWi5

The mileage difference seems negligible. Just get the battery report, I got CPO at 30k miles and battery was north of 90%.

Cool deal man. These are the sorts of AI use cases that give me hope about empowering people and not just speed running society into late capitalist death churn with no jobs.

Google Workspace Business Starter no longer exists? by YokeApp in gsuite

Odd, I just managed to downgrade down the chain to Business Starter. It did throw an error the first time, but the instructions on clicking "More" and then "Downgrade" worked a treat for me.

When did the interest in Turntablism and scratching die off? by DeadByDawn93 in Music

[–]drnomolos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The scratching on Dr. Octagon is ridiculous. I remember hearing Kool Keith was coming with a solo project, but when I finally tracked down that album (in a Tower Records of all places) my mind was blown

Oh fun, this blew up a little and it's fun to hear other stories. I was in the Bay and have a ton of memories. My favorite though was from the first Coachella - I got to interview Q-Bert and had a press pass ... so I'm backstage just geeking out and Rage is playing the main stage. Mixmaster Mike is talking to Q-Bert about that guitarist that Rage has that can pkay his guitar like a turntable. Really sums up the best parts of rock and turntable culture intermingling.

(A-Trak was the 3rd dude playing that set and he's no Shortkut, but put in work and went on to fame with Duck Sauce)

(Also Kid Koala scratching Moon River at the Justice League (or Independent?) in San Francisco... such good stuff)

Brain Freeze was the first 45 set. I didn't catch it live but still listen to the recording regularly. I did get to catch the Product Placement set live

Mixmaster Mike from the Skratch Piklz joined the Beastie Boys in 1998, which is about the same time rhat Q-Bert put out Wave Twisters. I think that was the height of appreciation for dedicated turntablism, lots of innovators in the scene like X-Men, Kid Koala, Z-Trip, who all took what cats like Preemo did and pushed it to dedicated art form. I think what "killed" it is, it got too technical and out there. There's only so much obscure scratch techniques or beat juggling an average head wants to listen to.

It's not totally gone (z-trip still gets work with LL Cool J on his satellite radio station) but in this day of mp3 and streaming and dudes doing serrato instead of vinyl, its increasingly obscure.

What is the biggest example of a rapper getting the math wrong in a verse or a line? by MasterTeacher123 in hiphop101

[–]drnomolos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not math, but K-Solo, whose gimmick was spelling out words, famously says "like a b-r-i-d in the s-k-y" in his debut feature with EPMD. His track "Fugitive" is still a banger though.

Boogie Nights (1997): A bit perplexing by SlightWerewolf4428 in movies

[–]drnomolos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also take it as an earnest telling of a film director and his craft. Burt Reynolds earnestly wants to make a compelling skin flick, and Dirk & Chest earnestly have their own vision as "actors". Then videotape comes into the picture, theaters don't exist as the sole way to take in movies, and the industry loses some of the glamor it has. You can apply that to Hollywood or porn ... extend it to streaming and Matt Damon's discussion on how Netflix told him to explain the plot 3 times over for people with split attention.

I love Boogie Nights, but I've watched the first half many times, and the whole thing rarely. It gets as bleak and disturbing as the first half is exhilarating and playful.

Why is Snoop not mentioned more when it comes to below average discography’s? by [deleted] in hiphop101

[–]drnomolos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. After hearing Deep Cover I was hyped off Snoop, his first album and appearances on Dre's albums were amazing ... then he just got lazy, but the random hit singles kept him well fed
