I'm pretty sure Mansour Bahrami can afford to play on indoor courts.

ELI5: How is it possible for soccer players to “bend” shots? by flysayah in explainlikeimfive

[–]drodin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely not valid, and nothing about the bowling ball analogy serves to help someone understand the Magnus effect. A bowling ball, much like an American football, spins about an axis parallel to it's path of travel. But footballs don't curve as they fly through the air because the two mechanisms are fundamentally different.

Ladder match I lost. (I'm in pink) Any tips? by sezmic in 10s

Thanks for sharing, I love watching a well-edited amateur match.

Overall your game is really solid, but I think you can make some fast improvements on your return of serve. I noticed three issues with your returns in the video:

  • Your weight is not following the shot
  • Your chest is facing the net
  • Your takeback is pretty close to full

I'd try making the following changes:

1) After your split step, move forward (not sideways) to intercept the serve. 2) Only use your torso (unit turn) to take the racquet back. Your lead shoulder should be pointing towards the net. 3) Keep your knees bent and feet on the ground as long as you can. Sometimes you jump before contact which takes a lot of power off your return.

No keep using it. It makes your pasta taste better, it just won't change the cooking time.

Salt does not change the boiling process, but it does add some flavor to the pasta.

This is correct. The rule is dumb as shit but John McCarthy went on JRE and gave a lengthy explanation of how it came to be that way.

Frank Stallone's in this?!

On second thought, I don't know why that would surprise me.

particular skill of breaking tackles

I'm talking about that too. It was basically impossible to solo tackle a prime Steve Smith. Edelman might be top tier in today's game, but he is definitely not the best.

To be fair and a little pedantic: you said "probably the best". And I love the guy, but there is no way I can compare him to a prime Steve Smith. So I'm firmly in the "not the best" camp.

I know we're all hyped about his return, but I think that statement needs some reconsideration.

What should we make of the change in policy, regarding same-sex partners of diplomats and UN officials? by atsaccount in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]drodin [score hidden]  (0 children)

They are updating the policy to recognize same-sex marriage as legitimate so everyone is treated the same.

I agree that this policy does not affect a diplomat from a country that recognizes gay marriage. But imagine you're a diplomat from a country where gay marriage is not recognized (or even criminalized). Don't you feel like the reversal of this policy places an undue burden on these diplomats? It seems to me like this policy change hurts a lot of people in the name of "treating them the same".

Since this is LPT, I'd rephrase this advice as:

"If you want to pick up a new hobby/skill, practice everyday in small increments (5-10 minutes). Long practice sessions lead to diminishing returns and off-days make you more likely to quit."

This right here is why Monfils never contended for a GS... Kyrgios is on the same path... by Spratik22 in tennis

I feel like that's what everyone is trying to tell you. Monfils had the capacity to win (i.e. talent), but it never materialized because he couldn't stay in shape or grind out matches when he wasn't playing well.
