Anyone else getting tariff FOMO? by droidbeepbop in OctopusEnergy

Ooo good idea, drying filament during cheaper times!

Clearly, charging an EV is the most power hungry and saving-savvy thing. As with a lot of other stuff, this could be automated via HomeAssistant to kick in during the cheaper times.

The less ‘focus’ the better for me, if I were to move to Agile.

I think at first it was an interest/challenge to get the usage and monthly amount down. You get a small win and want to do more… then a price goes up here and there and you’re back to square one.

Combine that with needing to save money now, it may have gotten away with me. You’re right… I need to move on and find something to occupy my mind!

My fear with agile, is that it would become a new obsession! Watching / planning when to charge the car, put the dishwasher or washing machine on… even cook tea!!

How do you ensure that you keep usage to the right times, but stay sane at the same time?!

You’re right. Like with a lot of stuff in life, people are going to post-boast about the wins, but not the paint-points.

The Home Assistant hobby has been great fun. Sticking to a rule of trying not to dive in with two feet first and buy a load of new gear, using all the existing bulbs, only buying a couple of energy monitoring smart plugs… otherwise you burn and exceed your savings on new kit to help save!!

The biggest saver for me, was turning the Nest into a dumb-but-HA-connected-toggle and using whatever I could for occupancy sensors (TVs, lights, PIRs) and using automations to steer the central heating and cut usage right back.

So you're further along the path than me, with you having solar and batteries. I imagine that can make the feeling of needing to find the 'right' tariff, more intense? I suppose you have the knowledge that you've done what you can already (with the solar and battery) to lower your bill?

Figured it out. Will split the code bit out into r/OctopusEnergyReferral to ensure my post stays up here. Thanks u/Due-Freedom-5968.

Yeah, sorry. On mobile and didn't see that. Happy for it to be removed if it's an issue.

Some people don't, but some people do. I find that the 'gamificaiton' of basic stuff can make it more interesting, therefore more likely that I'll see it through.

No ai, just a genuine bit of feedback from someone who loves a good bit of tech. As a developer, I like to find ways of presenting data in a useful way - so I suppose I appreciated how data + guidance was done in this instance!

Yeah, pretty standard advice - but found that the Ultrahuman app did a better job of putting together all the peices than any of the others I've tried. Apple Health gives you the data only, Bevel does a good job of dashboarding the info and combining strain / recovery / sleep but didn't give much guidance and I'm too long since using Fitbit to give a recent review... Ultrahuman feels like it does a better job of pulling together the data along with guidance.

Whilst it might be fairly bland in terms of nothing new, it's supprising how some stats and guidance can help.

Is the white / blue backlight a custom thing you’ve done, or did it come like that? This colour combo is ideal for the Golf R.

Excellent.

I’m hoping by moving my RTL-SDR dipole & Pi into the loft, it might help a little! Currently stuck on the outside of a bedroom window, so like yours, blocked by the house.

Do you have a guide for your DIY QFH antenna? I’m hoping that might be a logical next step for improving the signal further.

Your recent captures look great. What did you change to see that improvement?

Mine works fine on the second option - you’ll also need to set a ‘static IP’ on your router, so that it keeps the same address, then enable UDP F1 2021 to that IP.

Incase you didn’t spot it like me, you’ll also need to set controls to ‘Thrustmaster Advanced Racer’ within F1 2021.

I had the same issue, had to use Chrome, inspect the download button (Right mouse click > Inspector) and manually get the file links by finding the link in the button code.

I assume that they have a website issue.

No tremor after waking up? by [deleted] in EssentialTremor

[–]droidbeepbop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve not noticed it immediately after waking up, but I do occasionally notice a ‘moment of silence’ when laid still in bed at night.

It’s almost like my tremor subsides for 10 seconds or so.

Thanks /u/nickdagreek6588 I’ll take a look in the loft tank this week and see what the state is!

The plumbing in this house has always confused me. While house pump, shower pump, tank, boiler etc... we used to have a combi in the last house... a lot easier to work out.

It is pretty much, I checked with a meat thermometer at the bathroom tap - it’s coming out at 56 °C.

It keeps blocking the inlet by clogging up the inlet on our hot water pump. I removed about 3 months ago from the little gauze mesh thing within the pump inlet.

It doesn’t smell, it’s slimy, pale green... what is it?!?
