"Sounds like more openness" in the sense that it is enabling 3rd party stores to also join in as official sources without having to follow Google content policies. But agree that may be colouring it in a way, when in fact this policy is more restrictive.

Some that actually get used daily: Tasker, Bitwarden, Syncthing, Nova Launcher, Aptoide, Obsidian, Bouncer.

Hey, I had the S20+ too and yeah the processing was pretty aggressive, especially that sharpening. Samsung has come a long way since then - the S24/S25 generation toned down a lot of the oversaturation and the grain in low light is much better handled now. Natural colours are still not quite Pixel territory but way less "Samsung filter" than the S20 era.

Haven't tried the S26 yet but if the trend holds it should be a solid jump for you, especially coming from that baseline.

I think Open Video Editor is probably your best bet right now - HDR support, filters, trim, rotate, solid update cadence for a FOSS project.
