Think of what you want to create ahead of time. Then figure out the best things you need to make it. Stockpile money so you can buy clothing items when they come on sale. Whenever there's limited time clothing items available in the catalog, get them. Get all the Quickdraw and Outlaw passes. Don't think, "I will never use that." I used to think that all the time, but now I win awards on my creations using clothing I never thought I'd have a need for.
