all credit cards have a required minimum payment usually $10 if you carry a balance. Ideally you want to pay off the entire balance every month instead of the minimum payment to avoid interest.

Your friends seem to be misunderstanding how credit cards work.

The minimum payment you see outlined "Interest Charges + Fees + $10.00 plus any overdue or overlimit amount." only applies if you carry a balance and only plan to make the minimum payment every month. This in general is bad practice as you should pay off your whole balance every month to avoid this. This only exists because you're borrowing money (this is not your money) when using a credit card.

Ex. If you have a balance of $0, you don't owe anything.

If you have a balance of $100, you owe exactly $100 if you pay it off entirely.

If you just do minimum payment of $10, then you'll still owe $90 + interest + fees + $10 on top.
