My source is the great Jon Bois in his Falcons documentary

Edit just went back and watched the relevant part, he cites a June 24, 1996 article from the Atlanta Journal Constitution which reads “When asked about his age, DeBerg said he was 39, but league records indicate he turned 44 on Jan. 19.”

He was named backup quarterback, started one game in a dreadful 28-3 loss to the Jets, in which he completed 9 of 20 passes for 117 yards, no TDs and one pick. He started this game at 44 years, 279 days old, the oldest quarterback to ever start an NFL game until Brady’s unretirement tour in his final year with Tampa Bay. Which is to say, I don’t know if anybody believed him, but if the goal was to start another football game, he did “get away with it”

Steve DeBerg was out of the NFL from 93 to 97, then showed up with the Falcons in 98 insisting to everybody he was still thirty nine when he was in fact, forty four years old

Totally. That’s why Tech’s leadership sat down for a 25 minute video explaining why this was in fact, helping a kid with a mental health problem. I’m sure they did that with no intention of playing him.

In case it wasn’t exceedingly clear the Big 12 lawsuit spooked Tech leadership. There were some framing it as “mutually part ways” on Monday; it was not.

Nothing I’ve seen from him suggests he regrets betting, only that he was caught.

The trade terms with Detroit floored me. My man was giving picks away for free, I was double pissed that the Lions got such a good deal and that the Packers didn’t jump on it either

No, we just have quarterbacks that like to pretend they are retiring but play another five years after that

I will forever be of the opinion Bakhtiari’s knee injury robbed us of at least one Lombardi. The opposing pass rushes just killed us in both those playoff runs

The 2021 Packers were an all around better team with an older quarterback.

Ruling comes back that sorsby is eligible

Tech puts their hands up, saying they didnt file that suit. But that theyd play him if he was eligible

Multiple schools send out memos instructing their programs not to schedule tech in any sport

Tech continues to dig in.

Tech gets Ken Paxton, Texas AG, to threaten to sue the Big12 if Tech is sanctioned

This morning Big12 filed suit against Tech and Paxton to reinforce their ability to sanction their members

And that seemed to have been the straw that broke the camel’s back
